Default What does your forum name mean?

    Hi Guys,

Now I have done this thread before in Dec2008, but now 15 months later we have alot of new forum members. So please tell us how you chose your name and what it means.

Navajo Joe, I chose as I was playing as the Apachean Tribes in Kingdoms Americas and thought it had a good sound to it.

    Tell us all about yours.

    Cheers

My real name is Geoffrey. Geo = Earth = Land, and frey = fry (sorta, its a stretch) = made from potato = potato's are tubers. Therefore, Landtuber.

    It makes sense, I swear!

Clive is the name of my cat. If you have a cat you know that they all wish to rule the world. Clive is no different. Hence, Caesar Clivus. She is also the one in my avatar with the roman helmet

Okay, my first name was FinnKing as most of you may know... it was a poor decision, I know. It's a most simple name: Finn for my homeland (Finland) and King for... meh... I don't know. Perhaps it's not that simple at all, then.
My current account name would have been Goofy... I even decided to use (Disney's) Goofy as my avatar, he's so nice. And I like being silly, you know...
But I decided that Goofy sounds a bit dull, so I just added "Da" in front of it... I don't know what that "Da" stands for, it's just there. Perhaps it may be the synonyme of "the"... who knows...

For those who don't know what Goofy means, it's the synonyme of silly, mad, foolish and ridiculous, to mention only a few.

    Hope you liked the story.

It's the Da Goofy Code . Sorry that was bad and possibly used over and over again.

I always liked the name Galain, this was from one of the elves in Raymond E Feist's novel, Magician. However when I first wanted to use the name on a forum, Galain by itself was already taken, so I tacked on Ironhide, which at the time in my head sounded cool, although probably not so. But like many other forum names, it has stuck.

I put the _ between my first and last name just to be difficult.

    Standing atop a hill.
    Wind blowing my cape around.
Arm outstreached, pointing, declaring the end of days.
In the villiage at the foot of the hill, the human populace are screaming and running wild.
My Turkeys ripping apart the flesh of those unable to escape, burning the houses of the villiage.

Oh, sorry. What does my forum name mean?
Why, it's the future of course.

Earendil Elenthol has been my name for games for over 7 years now, so I think I'll stick with it. It is from the period I read much about LotR obviously (but not by the films, the books are better ). Earendil is the only character in the whole history of middle earth that doesnt end miserably and I kinda liked that. Elen thol should be some elvish but I already forgot their meaning. I'd like to change but have not really a good alternative, and some people only know me as EE, even in real life (met them in games).

People always think I like the cars, or more recently because of the avatar westerns, which I do, but neither of those reasons are why I have the name.

In a more literal sense, it means:

    1.
To avoid (a blow, for example) by moving or shifting quickly aside.
    2. To evade (an obligation, for example) by cunning, trickery, or deceit: kept dodging the reporter's questions.
    3. To blunt or reduce the intensity of (a section of a photograph) by shading during the printing process.

I'm one of those boring people who used an initial and last name as a forum name

Quite obviously, isn't it? I'm not creative (if you didn't notice yet ) so I picked my first name and my country.

I want to change to some LOTR personage, but till now I couldn't find any that fits me.

I knew a UT2k4 player that used Dodge as his nick. Sadly for me he indeed was true to his name.

Now as to bane... thats not easy. Let me get help from wikipedia.
Bane is a Modern English word meaning "that which causes ruin or woe", from the Old English bana ("slayer", "murderer"), from the Proto-Germanic *banon, cognate with *banja ("wound").

In Forgotten Realms Bane, also known as the "Black Hand" and "Black Lord", is the deity of hatred, fear, and tyranny commonly worshipped by lawful evil fighters, magic-users, illusionists, assassins, thieves, monks, and clerics. I played NWN and read quite a few books of that universe.

Then there is "boon and bane". Around counterstrike players here the term noob got changed up into something like "get the hostages you boon" which turns the "boon and bane" into a different meaning:
A newbie player with a "badass" name as he's bane and he's a boon. Luckily as my skills increased my proper nick got more into play

So aside from the root in Forgotten Realsm which first brought it to my attention as a name I see it as an self-ironic statement, if anything.
But then I was just as likely to register as Masakari or any of the other nicks I use.

The _tw part is easy to explain as bane was already in use.
