France stuck with Spain

One day, I got pissed off by the French invading everything so I took a stack of armies behind enemy lines and started looting every undefended city and gave most of them to Spain. Next turn I see a message "France -Spain Alliance Broken!" so I'm like, finally, France is going go own Spain for doing nothing. 5 turns later, the territories I gave to Spain are still there and that "France -Spain Alliance Broken!" pops up again. When I looked at diplomacy it shows that France and Spain are still allied. Now every turn that "France -Spain Alliance Broken!" message keeps on popping up and France and Spain are still stuck together. The message is a bit annoying but I loled the fact that once you give French territories to Spain, the French can't do anything about it.
Frenchmen: "Oh nooooo! They took Paris!"
Napoleon: "Assemble the armies!"
Frenchmen: "Sir! They gave Paris to Spain!"
Napoleon: "Damn! We can't get it back now!"

yeah they hardcoded that alliance for some reason. Maybe to control Spain or something.

am not sure, i have seen spain actually at war with france, and sieging two of their regions

I found this very annoying as well. I think it is scripted because the King of Spain at the time was a Bourbon and his cousins in France were dethroned by Napoleon so they weren't the best of friends. The people of Spain hated Napoleon but, had to be his ally or enemy. The Spanish didn't want a world war breaking out between the two european super powers.

I can't say for certain, but I think when France takes Vienna it also triggers the Spain/France alliance flip flopping. They go back and forth without going to war. However, once the process starts I've been able to quite easily get Spain to cancel their alliance with France, ally with me and go to war with France.

Sorry if i post this because i´m spanish but Spain was at war against napoleon from 1808 to 1814 http://www.1808-1814.org/ with England and Portugal as allies (it´s true that Wellington didn´t like us very much) so Spain wanted that world war breaking but maybe i don´t understand your post.

Spain was also very divided. Not all Spain was at war vs. Napoleon. The spanish rulers gave up their own country to the French & the spanish people revolted, but you know that... It 's more subtle. Spain was officially an Ally, but in reality a puppet & the people took the arms. It's true that the rebels were helped by Brits & even Portugal (despite old beefs).
TBH that's interesting but I can't see how CA could implement that in this game. Really, the problem here is that some players don't care about diplo & attack their own allies. Think Strategy guys, strategy!

Maybe you´re right but i think that before revolution Spain could be divided between illustrated men and monarchy but after 1808 all populance and military state were against Napoleon with no fracture.
It´s true that many rebel units were figthing in the peninsula but also military units.

That's absolutely false. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrancesado Joseph brought several enlightened and far reaching reforms with him, and he was a far better monarch than that brutish monster Ferdinand VII. So naturally there were many Spanish who fought alongside the French, or in some manner supported the reign of Joseph. The problem was he was Napoleon's stooge and he wasn't Spanish. But then again, neither was Philip V when he became King.

I had this problem also in my AAR, but managed to get France and Spain at war eventually. I had alot of money, so gave the Spanish much of it so they stop their alliance with France, Join an alliance with me and join my war against France, leading to their relations between one and other as hostile, and with such a negative relationship, I don't think the 'alliance script' can occur. It's pretty cool though, there is constant switching of ownership of the northern Spanish territories such as Barcelona. Here is a picture from my campaign map showing the two countries, whose both armies are quite injured after constant fighting with each other.

I made Spain a British protectorate which it was in all but name. Spain captured two of the southern French regions and I took Provence and N.Italy.

I played French campaign. And Spain Attacked me because I attacked Switzerland and Württemberg. Spain destoryed my fleets.

Well if you attack your own allies... as Naopleon I have my hands already full with the Prussians & Austrians + that dam' British Navy, so why moving against... Switzerland??? WTF???
Hey, maybe for fun, to test the AI...

I wanted to liberate them. Because then I can be sure, they dont attack me I can give them tehnolocy and money to defend me against Austrian armies. Then i can attack italy lands and Austria.

I understand but that was still a bad move. Minor allies won't attack you. They fixed that diplo bug since ETW

Focus on destroying Austria & Prussia. If you really want these minor allies in your direct rule, let the Austrians invade them then take them back. TIP Never attack trusty allies. if you have to, manage to make them break the alliance or get invaded and then "liberate them. I know, It's cunning!

Yes, sure do this! I need to learn much about napoleon. I have not yet played SP, only MP with my friend, so i need to learn new things and features.

Playing Spain with a mod Spain has a hardcoded alliance. France declares war on you after awhile if you play Spain even if very friendly. Even after the alliance is broken every other country still gives you the penalty for being in an alliance with them. France even goes passive and makes peace with eveyone but you.

I saw a similar bug during my Italian campaign. IIRC, Venice was allied to Papal, and one turn the alliance broken msg came up, telling me these two were at war. But when I check the diplomacy tab, they were still shown as allies.

Either the alliance broken msg is bugged, or the diplomacy tab is bugged. From the looks of this thread, I guess it's the diplomacy tab that's bugged.
