    Default question about unit behavior

is it just me or do other people see the DLV 6.2 formations behaving defensively during combat regardless of the defensive stance setting?

What do you mean by 'behaving defensively'?

For example do you mean that you cannot tell the difference between having guard mode enabled or disabled?

particularly, the way they hold their formations. while in not in devensive mode they will chase enemies, but the men hold formations making flanking more difficult since the unit is difficult to move and may need to be reformed be fore attacking a flank or font. the real problem is it is extremely tough to bring all the men to bear against the enemy formations.

I don't really understand what you mean. But I only play DLV so I don't know how the battle would play like in a different mod.

When you compare DLV with other mods, speed of units is slower. It is hard to maneuver heavy infantry into flanking position while your other unit is holding enemy pinned and taking casualties. Due to the powerful charges of knights, my tactics are centered on them. No longer are spears remedies against cavalry. One carefully planned charge from knights can eliminate unit of spears. Try to use light units and cavalry for flanking and heavy units for holding enemy infantry. I found the best way to deal with enemy knights are charge them with your own knights. Once they are stopped, engage your spears and withdraw your knights to prevent casualties and to engage them elsewhere in new charge. DLV ROCKS!

    DLV DOES ROCK INDEED!

Guard mode (D) is such a handy feaure. I always put my missile troops on gaurd mode so they don't chase to range and mess up my formations.
Another thing is when you want to withdraw a unit from combat or have a unit run through an enemy unit without fighting, gaurd mode helps with these things.

my problem is not that units move slow or knight are uber important. my problem is they way infantry hold formation to a ridiculous extent. in M2TW units in the rear ranks would move out along the side of their own formation and attack the enemy. in dvl men stand at their positions in their formations even when order to attack and not in the "defend mode". the only way to bring more men in a single formation forward is is to order the troops to march in to a wider front.

DVL is great i love it, but this is kinda annoying.

Have you tested this in custom battle or campaign battles?
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.
