Default Has there always been a Jewish population in Palestine/Israel?

Everyone knows how the Palestines feel they are driven out of their Palestinian homeland, but I was wondering what has been the Jewish presence in Israel throughout history? To my knowledge the Jews were there in Roman times, but after the Islamic Conquests I actually don't know. Was the Jewish presence in Palestine continuous up until the 20th century, or was Palestine settled with Jews only after it became a British Protectorate in the 1920's?

There was always a Jewish population there, but not always as a majority.

Ya, or how do you think Crusaders found Jews to be killed during Sack of Jeuslam??

There is always a small number of Jewish population in Middle East. However, a large amount of Jewish immigrants started arriving during early 20th Century and started the racial trouble in that region.

Of course not, the dinosaurs were there first, the Jews killed the Dinosaurs and took their land. (Now quite simply, I don't know if there has "always: (as in since the beginning of the religion) been Jews in the Levant, but there have also been other people there who predate them, they do of course talk about "coming to their promised land" as well..Did they come there from somewhere else, or is that only talking about people returning from Egypt?

According to the bible, no. The Jews came into the 'promise land', migrating in just as many other groups of peoples were doing at the time. But they've been there long enough to call it a home land, just like the Germanic peoples spread throughout France, Britain, Africa, and Russia.

Yes, there has always been a Jewish population in Palestine ever since the founding of the old kingdoms. The amount has varied throughout the ages, being sharply reduced during the Roman era, growing steadily throughout the late antique and Islamic periods, declining again after the crusades and staying relatively small until the aaliyah periods.

I remember a story of a Muslim scholar travelling to Palestine sometime in the thirteenth or fourteenth century and arriving in one of the larger towns, Jaffa, and finding exactly one Jew.

It mostly fluctuates. They had pretty good peace in Ottoman rule but I don't think they ever reached majority though they did in the Western regions. Thessaloniki was a Jewish town.

I thought that there were more Turks, then Jewish being the largest minority, followed by Greeks.

Thanks to Spanish, Thessaloniki got lots of migration as the Sultan usually stationed them in this general location. They were usually the largest group up until Greek occupation and ultimately WWI. It was one of the greatest losses to Ottoman Empire. It's a shame that the city couldn't keep it's Jewish identity.
