    Icon11 Beginners questions

    Hi,

I played TW: Med II for the first time yesterdag. A greater game (combining EUIII en Stronghold). After reading the forums and the manual, i'm still felt with a few questions.

Where can i find / recruit governors ? Untill now i only had the familymembers avalable.

Is there a way to get units back up to full strenght ? (without merging them ?) How ?

    Thanks

    Biko

    Hi
Your family members act as the goveners when they are in a city/castle. You cant recuit additional governors that arent in the family. Additional family members can be obtained by existing family members having kids, marridges (either princesses with other factions generals or non princesses with other people), adoptions (most common when the family tree is small with few family members) and man of the hour candidates (caused by captains winning good battles).

Yes there is a way of getting units back to full strength. Simply send the unit to a city/castle that is suffiently upgraded to build it in the first place. There should be a tab that says retain on it next to the recruiment and building tabs. go on this and the unit should be available to retrain and return to full strength.

You get then in your family tree. Your current governers will have wives and kids witch in time will become governers. Other ways of getting a governer is by adopting. You can adopt either some general that one of your family member will propose or you can adopt a "Man of the Hour" general that you get after wining a battle with only a captain in charge.

Not there isn`t unfortunately, not in the vanilla or kingdoms game. They grow back their numbers over several turns without you having to do anything

    Cheers!

On the question of merging / retraining units to replenish their numbers -

There are two ways to replenish the numbers of regular (non-general) units. First, you can take them to a town where they could be trained, and then "retrain" them, bringing their numbers back to full. If you do this with troops with very small numbers (ex. 20/75), then you are likely to lose some experience on the troops. (More chevrons = more experience = better fighters. Bronze -> Silver -> Gold = better fighters) The other option is to "merge" units of the same type. You can do this by hitting "m" with the army selected. You can highlight multiple units (ctrl-click) and hit "m". You can also drag one unit onto another unit in the same army.

A trick I have learned to do over time is to manipulate this system. If you merge 2 units which add up to more than one full unit ( 40/60 and 35/60) then the one which is left with less members will gain experience. If you then take that unit back to be retrained to full numbers, they will retain most of that experience. Thus, you can gain a great amount of experience over a short period of time by having a flow of replacement units to your front lines.

This is especially useful with ranged units because the more experienced they are, the better their accuracy becomes. If you take a 3-gold experienced peasant archer into battle, they will do more damage and kill more units than 3-4 units of the same type but without experience, for example.

Note that a general's bodyguard just regrows back to its full strength automatically, you can't replenish its numbers. However, if you build higher level armouries you can upgrade their armour.
