    Default Daylight Savings Time.

This may be the wrong place for this, but you'll have to excuse me. It's 6:30 am. Sorry, I mean 7:30.

As some of you may know, DST is a load of crap, and even though it was originally conceived by an etymologist, we practice it because of a golfer.

    Spoiler for Even Wikipedia agrees

Now I may not be the most informed on the topic, but I am the most aggravated about having to wake up an hour early in the spring and to bed an hour later in the winter. If I don't get my sleep, I'm very annoying and piss people off much more quickly than if I actually sleep. I sincerely doubt that DST helps the environment, all it really does is give sportsmen and construction workers an extra hour. Firstly, sports don't relate to real issues, even though many people at my school will disagree, and secondly, how many times have you seen construction workers actually working the whole day (well I don't know about you foreigners or guys in other states, but they take a year to do something that could be done in 6 months).

Since I have to go to school now, I can't really say anything else... so, discuss?

One of the original reasons for implementing DST is that school children in Scotland and northern parts of England often had to leave the house to go to school while it was still dark, in the depths of winter. The extra hour means that these same school children, in the middle of winter, can go to school as the sun is rising and get home in the dark, rather than enjoy twenty minutes of dusk each evening.

As this is only a problem for a few weeks each year, is it really worth the effort?
Although this may disappoint some people, I am indeed alive, I just went inactive for three years.

The greatest reason for DST was WW1, it allowed more work to be done as it allowed us more daylight. In Scotland in december, it gets light at about 9.00 and gets dark when we are coming back from school at 4.00.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

I'm not to sure about this, but didn't that end in 1918?

Electric lighting enables people to work or do sports before sunrise or after sunset

I've heard that it is because when the clock is switched back an hour in the spring the day stays brighter longer and less fuel is needed for lights. Benjamin Franklin calculated (although from what i understand somewhat jokeingly) that if a similar system was used billions of pounds of lamp oil would be saved annuely. As much as i like the extra hour of sleep one day, i do not like the missing hour of sleep the other.

although if it was put in place in WWI and worked, why would they suddenly switch back after the war, especially if it saved money?

Well I'm in the North East of Scotland and, despite daylight saving time, I still had to go to school and come home in the dark around Christmas time.

It's not that big of a detriment. Sure, it's weird, but we've all learned to just live with it.
Though I don't see what the this has to do with ethics, morals, or religion.
