    Default Modding basics ?

Give me some advise guys. I've basically lurked enough on here to figure out that stainless steel is the mod that sounds the most interesting to me but I had a couple of questions before jumping in to installing.
I'm pretty much a noob at modding. I've never tried this game but have done some basic stuff on Civ IV.

First off how complicated is it to install SS or similar? I'm hoping for idiot proof but...
I've seen the links to the downloads but is there any thing that I need to know or have before starting?
What exactly is the process for doing so?

Basicly if you were able to install MTW2 and Kingdoms (1.4 or higher) then you should be able to install SS.

Kingdoms 1.4, turned of UAC & antivirus, 6-7gb free disk space.
Might be helpful to give notice to your loved ones because they might not see you again for the next 2+ weeks.

All modding is handled by the installers - nothing necessary beyond doubleclick & point the installers to the correct folder at the start.

I'll post all the instructions here.

    1. Make sure you have Medieval Total War 2 and Kingdoms installed.
    2. Make sure that they are all of the latest patch (1.51 I think)
    3. Go to this link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=159996
    4. Now, you'll be bombarded with tons of links and information, calm down
    5. Download all the parts (Stainless Steel part 6.0 1 of 2 part 1) (Stainless Steel 6.0 part 1 of 2 part 2) (Stainless Steel 6.0 part 2 of 2 part 1) (Stainless Steel 6.0 part 2 of 2 part 2)
    6. Run these exe.
    7. While running them save some time and download the Stainless Steel 6.1 patch
    8. Run the part 1 and part 2 6.0 again because sometimes it misses things
    9. Run the 6.1 patch
    10. Run the patch again
    11. You're good to go, there will be a Stainless Steel shortcut on your desktop (It says 6.0, but it is actually 6.1, you can see it in game)

Now, I really recommend the RR/RC submod with Stainless Steel as it makes combat much more fun and interesting; if you want it read the instructions below:
    12. Click this link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=300716
    13. Download Part 1: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N3JZNG27
    Part 2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=289URIK3
    14. **Extract/Unzip into your C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War folder** (Or the directory folder you installed into)
    15. After Extraction/Unzipping, double-click on the Medieval II Total War\FILE_TASKS.bat file. This will run for just a minute. If you see 'Access Denied' messages, don't worry its normal. (This is inside the folder you just extracted into)
    16. Next, go to http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=336450 and install the Feb28 patch into the C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War folder, then double click on C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\FILE_TASKS2.bat. IMPORTANT (Notice the 2 on FILE_TASKS2, the first one you ran didn't have a 2 at the end)
    17. You're good to go

Hopefully this step-by-step instruction helped you play this wonderful mod.

I am going to give it a shot but like I said in the original post I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff. (I don't even know how to tell if I have version 1.51) So I may have to come back with some follow ups for you guys if you don't mind.

On a side note I'm amazed at how fast you can get answers to questions about a game that's two years old with a board this active. Glad I found this place.

    thanks guys.

Ok, here's what I'm getting. I click the link and it takes me to a different window to download. I click to download and click run (correct?) then it goes through the download. Now when I got done witht the first one it opened up in a window with the name and a message that said something to the affect of "you know that this rar isn't free" or something to the affect...
I am assuming it's saving like it's supposed to but it never asked me for a file to send it to like I've heard some people talking about so I'm not sure I'm doing it right

Either way I'm starting on the second one now

With downloads, "save target as" is your friend. It never pays to click run.
Save all the files from step 5 in one location (your desktop?) and wait till they are finished for step 6.
If the names of files you are saving end in .zip or .rar you have to extract them first before you can continue with 6.
