Spearwall for Halberd units - Good or bad?
Is spearwall for halberd units good vs infantry, or is it better to charge your halberd unit?

Re: Spearwall for Halberd units - Good or bad?
Do halberd units have a secondary attack they use when they charge ?
Halberd and long speared units [spearwall units] should be used only in choke points and mainly against cavalry. Against infantry they prob can hold a while longer so that your ranged units will do more dmg, but your spearwall won`t do much dmg at all. They are just for holding out, but i`m not exactly sure about how efficient halberd units are and the difference between halberd and long spears...

Re: Spearwall for Halberd units - Good or bad?
Halberds do rather decent charge damage, if they can pull off a clean charge. They, however, are very succeptable to being picked apart if they are attacked for a period of time, as their weapons are good for the charge attack, another swing or two, and that's about it. This is why, for the most part, halberds are best used as a lesser form of pike units. The bonus, though, is that, should they have the oppertunity to attack an open flank, they can decimate it. And if they can charge cavalry which is already engaged, the cavalry is as good as dead. Even bodyguard units get ripped apart if hit from behind by halberds.
So, to answer your question... use them in spear-wall formation until you see an open flank, then disengage the formation, wait a moment for them to get on their feet, and then charge with them. Just be careful that you don't get attacked when not in spear-wall.
