You can find others on the net.... even if it is not an absolute reference.
I think some units wore them at Barossa and Albueja in 1811.
I send a pm to prince about it. He certainly know the truth....
I think the painters are using artistic licence.
Richard Simkin "Uniforms of the British Army - the Infantry" says "...the introduction of the shako made the grenadier fur cap an item for ceremonial duties. The 'stove-pipe' shako continued on service with the white plume now worn on front and the device of a flaming grenade might appear on the shako plate." He does illustrate an officer and a private wearing the cap and says "...in 1814 service dress .......although may have been worn at home only."
I will add to this after I have had time to consult other books on the military dress of the British Army.
Edit: Have now looked at Volume 5 CP Lawson "A History of the Uniforms of the British Army". page 15 says "The fur caps of grenadiers & pioneers were handed into store on going on active service." Followng Waterloo, Wellington allowed regiments to call back from England the grenadier & band fur caps as he was conscious of the poor look of British units compared to their Austrian, Prussian & Russian regiments in their tall headdresses and towering plumes.
Page 111 of C E Franklin "British Napoleonic Uniforms" says "...The Grenadiers & drummers usually wore the shako when on campaign...".
Despite the evidence, one can never say never as the Napoleonic Wars is full of exceptions to the rules......

Actually, I also used a Bearskin for the British, but I reserved that for kind of what if units, if someone capture England and recruit grenadier, they'd have a Bearskin, to differentiate them from "real" British units.
Anyway, the more the merrier
