Default Gaming rig stuck in power save mode

Everything has been great with my computer the last 2 months I've had it but today my computer went into power save mode and I can't get it to work. The computer is on but my screen is blank other than getting text readouts on my monitor saying "power save mode enabled" or something like that when I hit a key.

Now I'm not too hip on gaming computers or PC's for that matter but from what I've researched online it seems like it may be related to my graphics card. I learned that power save mode will enable to protect my graphics card from overheating. Is this correct?

I did leave my computer on last night by accident and it must have been on for close to 16 hours straight so maybe that has something to do with it...I'm not sure. I did try and reboot my computer twice after allowing it to sit for 20 minutes and I did have the same issue. I checked to make sure the card is seated properly and it appears that it is and nothing seemed out of place.

To get to the point my question is what now? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Here's my rig:

I figured this out...my video card is shot. I purchased a NVIDIA PNY 9600GT video card and my computer worked immediately. I played some NTW and had no issues. Now, this is not the card I want as I want to upgrade a bit from my 9800GT. I can return it for up to 14 days so I'll use this one until I get another.

I've been playing on "high" settings with some mods including increased number of troops mod which gets me some lower FPS on battles where I have roughly 8,500 to 9,500 soldiers/cavalry on the screen earlier on in the battles. I want to continue to play on high and not get lower FPS.

So considering my existing rig, what would you guys suggest as an upgrade to my 9800GT? I'm hoping I can get something for under $200. U.S. that will fulfill my needs.

It's interesting you recommended this one as it's the one I've had my eye on. Will this provide better performance than the 9800GT?

Slightly the 9800GT is a good solid card.

The ATI 5770 is capable of running any games at high settings or even max settings may vary.

I myself have seen this card in action at my mates and boy it pulls its weight man maxes BFBC2 easy the DX11 is also a great feature for the upcoming titles which will support it.

    I would advise this card.

The 9800GT may just beat it ever so slightly but im sorry the 5770 is made for coolness reliability and user comfort.

Which it excels in every way possible.

However if your one for your eye candy get a 5850 save the money its worth it.

The 5850 is future proof so is the 5770 but more games that release require more demanding graphics.

Hope this helps any further assistance just drop me a PM bro.

If your video card is less then 2 or 3 years old get in contact with PNY and get it replaced.

There's no way a 9800GT can beat a HD5770 unless it's on an low resolution where the CPU becomes the limiter. I upgraded from a 8800GT which is speced exactly the same as 9800GT (the 9800 uses a small manufacturing process) to a HD5770 and noticed the difference in games like Crysis almost right away, where before I could bear run the game a Medium settings (1920x1200 no AA) it was now smooth on High at the same resolution.

    I agree.

BUT i still stand and say the 9800GT may have a gain over the 5770 on some games like crysis etc.

I purchased this computer used a few months ago so I am not the original purchaser of the card. I do believe it's only about 1.5 to 2 years old as that is when the computer was originally built. Would they replace it without a receipt?

He just explicitly stated Crysis as an example in which he got a ton more performance in. The 9800GT won't come anywhere near the 5770.
RIP Calvin, you won't be forgotten.

I will primarily be playing Total War on this rig...that's why I got it. Are you saying the 5770 is the better card for Total war games? I'd like to run the game on "high" with 9,000 or so troops on the screen without compromising my FPS.

My 9800GT ran NTW perfectly on high with 2,000 to 4,000 troops total, but when I got into 8,000 to 9,000 I started dropping frames especially early on in the battles.

Then yes also you can tweak it to and your CPU.

I say buy its a great card.

I cant exactly say it will keep up the FPS as i have never tested.

    But it should.

Can you save some funds for the next 2 months maybe ? then buy the Ati 5850 that card i assure will dominate NTW.
