Default Problems installine SS, help please?!

Hey ! Can anybody help me with the following please ?
I have just downloaded Stainless Steel (part 1-2 and the patch), installed it in the main folder; Sega/Medieval/… But don’t know what to do next? If after downloading and restarting the computer I look in to the folder, there is not a trace of SS.
You have to know that I’m a real noob with this stuff… so can someone tell me what the next steps are? I know that SS must be in that folder, because if I go back to the site where I downloaded it from, and select the folder to download it again, it shows SS right there! In the folder on my computer, so I guess the download went fine before… So…is it invisible or something?
I know, must sound real nooby, but can someone explain please?

Forgot to say; I have Kingdoms, and now try to install SS 6.0. this is the right thing to do, right?
Oh…and previous, some months ago, I also installed patch 1.3. this was just before I bought Kindoms.

Hm, maybe I can help. Do you have the SEGA folder set to read only? If so, go to properties and uncheck that. Check the Mods folder... That's where it should be [it's inside the medieval two total war folder.]

Oh, yeah, turn off User Account Controls if you're using vista... Might be something similar for XP, I forget, but UAC tends to really mess with Stainless Steel. I couldn't play it until I turned UAC off.

By the way, don't feel bad. I was about as clueless as you are right now ... It took me a good fews days to figure it out, but it was all worth it! Just don't stress; you'll get it figured out, trust me, any moment some Stainless Steel techno wizard is going to come in and come in with a long answer on how to fix it... Any second now.

Thanks for the support, Mr Tornado!
I’ll try your advise later today, I’m at my work now...
It took you some days to get it running? Wel, guess, I’ll get it running next year or so...

I found out another thing. When going back to Gemerhell to downlaod it again, and finding SS already in my main folder, it says it’s compressed or something...
So, if I mannage to uncheck the ‘read only’, do I need to unpack SS? And do I need to do it by myself or is there an unpacker with it?

Hope that I’m not to confusing...

It's probably in a .rar file or something in which case you need a decompressing program. I'm not sure if winzip does it but I use WinRAR which should be downloadable if you search google for it.

From memory, it then unpacks an installer rather than the files and you run the installer, installing into the Medieval II Total War folder. It should eventually have the path: C(or whatever disk you use):\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6

I'm using XP so I don't know about Vista

Download the trial or free versian of winrar, then use it to unpack the files... That should be your problem, actually.
