Picks up treatment from producer Adrian Askarieh

Warner Bros. is turning Leonardo into an action-adventure hero. No, not DiCaprio, but Da Vinci.

The studio has picked up a treatment titled "Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever" from producer Adrian Askarieh, who is teaming with Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

Da Vinci is best known as the painter behind "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper," though he also was an inventor, engineer, architect, mathematician among many other occupations. The project re-imagines Da Vinci as a member of a secret society who falls headlong into a supernatural adventure that pits the man against Biblical demons in a story involving secret codes, lost civilizations, hidden fortresses and fallen angels. Think "National Treasure" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" by way of "Clash of the Titans."

Askarieh, who is producing via his Prime Universe banner, came up with the original idea and wrote the treatment, with a search for a writer now under way.

Jon Berg is overseeing for Warners.

Prime Universe and Vertigo have histories with Warners. Askarieh is producing (along with Dan Lin and Daniel Alter) "Jonny Quest" for the studio, while Vertigo exec produced "The Departed," bringing home multiple Oscars for Warners.

In the wake of the worldwide success of "Sherlock Holmes," Warners seems eager to make more projects involving a period setting, a historical figure and the fantastical. Last week, the studio picked up a pitch that has Francis Lawrence attached to direct a supernatural tale featuring explorer Marco Polo, and it's back in business with "Holmes" director Guy Ritchie on a King Arthur project.

I did a senior paper on pope paul carafa and the spirituali. spirituali was a secret order full of protestant idealism. Da vinci was part of it and hounded for his works of art that reflects the spiritualis ideals. Look at the pbs web site for the full documentary (dead mens secrets). this could be what w.b. is taking out of context. Watch the documentary though it is very interesting and rarely known.

...What? Those are three completely different genres.

It only means they wanna combine that treasure hunting, puzzle solving, secret society stuff with action scenes fighting CGI monsters.

So I guess Da Vinci is gonna become a Van Helsing with lots of cool gadgets he can always whip out when he's in a pickle.

Well if they can turn Dante into a scythe-wielding badass I guess they can do that to Davinci
And yes I'm aware that Dante's inferno game wasn't actually a hollywood product but still.
