its been 60 years (roughly) since ww2...
history has shown that there was a similar period before ww1
and 30 years of peace after ww1
any chance within the next 20 years or so we'll see a world war
or can we actually keep the peace?

There were 20 years of peace after WWI - 1918 to 1939. Conflicts today will be in Asia, not Europe I think. And in fact, we are already in a war in Afghanistan and finishing one in Iraq, so we've already been to war.
If we have a world wide war it will be the last with the kind of weaponry we have we would destroy humanity most likely.
So no I sure hope there wont be a third world war.
.........
Yea I really hope not. I think we're more likely to see constant smaller localized conflicts, interventions, insurgencies, and civil wars. War between states is now basically MAD with modern weaponry and the concept of total war.
Thats why america plays weapon police.

Hopefully. I'm getting bored with current world affairs.
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

European civil war when the EU unites, perhaps? Oh won't that be fun...
(not that I'm predicting it, just throwing ideas out there)
The EU is not uniteing it s falling appart.
Indeed the glory of war quickly fades when people are being killed around you, and the eagerness of wondering if you have what it takes to kill someone then your put in a position where you have no choice but to do something becouse the possibility of being very Dead is forced upon you.

I'm just sick of watching the news and seeing the same old crap about housing prices and MP's expenses. There's nothing more entertaining than war. Seeing the heavy weapons in action, territory being gained and lost, the strategy, the bloodshed...
I don't know about you, but I found World War II a bit boring compared to the first one. When studying it, we end up learning about the Holocaust rather than the actual war.Originally Posted by Captain Jin
