On this site there are many historical reenactors.

Could any of you help shine some light on how different is HR from cosplaying, aside from that one deal with history and the other with anime/manga? For instance, professionalism, costs associated, time...?

An interesting question. I look forward to reading the responses to this.

It is my great honour to have my poem Farmer in the Scriptorium here.

One is nonfictional and totally hetero.

    The other isn't.

Usually cosplayers do shoddy jobs on their clothing and equipments, although recently there appears to be professional tailors specially focusing on cosplay clothes. The other is that historical re-enactment are usually for really hardcore history buffs while cosplay attract more casual fans and thus, are not very professional.

The quality of clothes and armour made by reenacters are better in quality?

Cosplay is essentially people wearing costume that looks like armour for instance, while reenacters wore actual armour that can protect them if they are thrown back into time and right in the middle of a battle.

Reenacters also worked/trained together if they are protraying an army unit in the past, while cosplayers don't really do so( unless you are cosplaying as a stormtrooper or something like that).

    Shoddy costumes?

One uses real guns, other uses plastic ray guns?

Or you can cosplay and steal a speech from a video game including the background music, and have the laughing man face on your face to save you from enbarrasment. I actually love this speech. hehe

    Better yet.

Answering my own question, I wonder what would happen if someone comes to Comiket wearing this. Hilarity will ensue.

(Can't seem to get the thumbnail to work... How do we use it again?)

Well, in a similar vein, I went to an anime convention (which have become more like internet/pop-culture conventions, really) and saw two guys in Roman legionary armour, fully decked out, one with centurion helmet.
The line is very blurred, indeed.

I think that the main difference is that Historical Reenactors are a very specialised, professional subtype of cosplayers. The can be compared to general cosplayers in the same manner that the Green Berets can be to the rest of the Army.

That's at least cool, now imagine doing the same dressed as some manga character.
I agree both are "a bit" nerdy.
