Default Newegg sold Counterfeit i7-920 CPU's

How the heck would that happen? To actually ship them out to paying customers.... Intel has holographic stickers and such on the box and in the package that would make it extremely difficult for someone to put out a convincing counterfeit that Newegg wouldn't notice till' after they sent them out.

How would I know if I got a counterfeit? I ordered mine in January 2010.

Have you seen pictures of it? Its very convincing at first glance which is all they'd be spared in the shipping warehouse.

Well it looks like IPEX screwed up royally on this they will be lucky if they don't get sued by Newegg for bringing their name into distribute.

This is nothing new. Intel always suggests that you compare numbers on the box to your invoice, etc. There are actual counterfeit chips complete with HSF. You wouldn't know until you looked at contact points.

The amount of stuff coming in and going out of a Newegg warehouse everyday, you cannot expect them to inspect everything. Although they might try and do so, now...

This is clearly on the supplier.

I don't know why, but I find those counterfeit parts amusing. I still have a hard time believeing one idiot put the fake CPU in his mobo and fried it.
