Default Doing something wrong trying to run Memtest86

    I download the file.

Open the zipped folder and see one item.

I extract the files and get another folder/file with an .iso extension.

I try to open this and get a prompt that Nero needs to open it...

I'm taken to the Nero interface to burn the file to a disc...Nero says the burn was 100% successful.

I can see a 1MB file with the .iso on the CD when viewing the contents.

I restart the PC and go to the boot menu...I choose to boot from CD.

Nothing happens...Windows just restarts no Memtest.

I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong since this is the very first time I've ever tried to burn a CD...

I did a stupid thing once... not sure if it's the same for you but on my "boot from" menu in my BIOS you can choose "boot from CD/DVD drive" or you can choose the name of the CD/DVD drive on the list which in my case was a big string of letters and number also including the brand name of my drive, choosing "CD/DVD drive" would ignore my drive, I had to choose the drive name itself in the list. I spent 2 hours figuring that out thinking my mobo was bad Perhaps it's the same for you.

Perhaps youre supposed to burn the contents of the iso file to the disc, rather than the iso file itself. id have though Nero would have done that for you but maybe not.

Do you know how I would do that?

Not in a step by step sense since i don't have the program in front of me. Basically you want to burn the "image" rather than the data file, there should be an option in nero somewhere.

OK, maybe this means something...maybe not

I'm currently using Nero 9 Lite (the free one...since I'm only trying to do one disc).

When I search for "how to burn ISO files using Nero 9" nothing specifically comes up but I do get hits about how to do it with other versions (i.e. versions 5-8).

I finally found something that mentioned how it was somewhat hidden in Nero 9...my interface didn't look exactly like the ones in the images leading me to believe the feature isn't included in the "Lite" version of Nero 9. Especially when I click on the option that closely resembles the one in the instructions I'm told that it isn't a part of the "Lite" package and get an offer to purchase the full version of Nero 9.

As I said I saw various instructions on "how to burn iso files" using other versions, one of which was Nero Express (which came with my DVD drive)...however when I originally tried it with Express I was told Express didn't do that and I would need to upgrade. However I think I might have done something wrong (trying to save the file instead of the image - as stated a few posts above) so I don't know.

Finally, in repeated searches for "how to burn iso files" I also come across sites talking about using "Nero Burning ROM." Is that something different from regular Nero? In some instances I would see the choice "download Nero Burning ROM" but when I clicked on it I was taken back to the Nero website where I didn't see "Nero Burning ROM" but all the various versions of Nero.

    So the questions are:

    1. Is it possible that the feature for burning iso files is not a part of Nero 9 Lite?
    2. Does anyone know if it's possible to burn iso files using Nero Express?
    3. Is "Nero Burning ROM" different software from regular Nero?

    1. Perhaps... Most companies who provide both freeware and shareware software tend to have(freeware) a lot less options.

    2. Yes, it is.

    3. Nero Burning ROM is used for burning already existing CD/DVDs; while Express is used to burn stuff from your hard drive unto the CD/DVD optical media.

I'm using Nero 8, and in Nero Express you have 4 options, in the left pane. The one you want is 'Image, Project, Copy'. I'm guessing something similar should be present in Nero 9 Lite. Once you're there, select Disc Image or Save Project(you want the Disc Image thing). Then just select the .iso and burn it.

If you're using Windows 7 however, there is a built-in option for burning .ISO files. If Nero 9 Lite doesn't support it, I recommend a fairly easy CD/DVD burning software called CDBurnerXP (download). If you want something a lot more advanced(even more advanced than Nero in some cases) and freeware still, try ImgBurn (download). If you're not tech savvy go for CDBurnerXP, you'll be amazed at how easy it is.

EDIT: So I installed Nero 9 Lite, and I only got StartSmart and don't really see the option to burn images onto CD/DVDs... I'd either recommend a full version of Nero, or CDBurnerXP, as I said above.
