I managed to assasinate Napoleon Bonaparte with my spy, but it still displays him as the leader of France if you have diplomacy with them

The game clearly states that very important historic characters will not be put out by death they will respawn in nearest city injured rather than dead. Just for this sought of thing to stop you topping Napoleon at the start of campaign

Lol - tell me about it! I've killed him twice in battle in my Austrian campaign and he's been resurrected in Paris, the little tinker has more lives than a ruddy cat.

Incidentally, NTW is strongly in need of a realism mod. The "unfortunate" General Mack was able to blitzkrieg his way across Europe and attack and take Paris, although holding it was another matter, but looting it has made the Austrians extremely rich. However, the thing that niggles at me was that this was achieved by the spring of 1806!
