I noticed in some reskin mods that people have cracked the code on how to swap hats and pants. I'd like to know how to do this.

Oh, only with hex editing. Damn.
And to think I was going to see my Austrians wearing helmets by nightfall.

...but you certainly have to try it,it's not so hard after all. It's the only way, untill we get an uniform editor.

There are tons of them, just google it.I'm sure that the most of them have basic functions like string search and finder.
My brain turned to jelly when I saw all the numbers. I'm sorry, I didn't understand anything.

There's more info on the unit_variant file here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=339939
Based on Oby's post, it should be pretty obvious how to change the models and textures if you don't mind using a hex editor. Ignore the numbers side and just type in the paths to the files you want in the text side. Here's a good hex editor: http://www.bpsoft.com/bbl/download/d...e=hw32v514.exe

So where/what would I enter if I want to put Bavarian helmets on Austrian?

Scroll about 25% of the way down on the unit_variants file and you should see something like:
Change the mesh (mesh = model). The next entry will be the texture. Change the texture. From what I can tell, there are several hats listed, so you may need to change all of them. I wish I could experiment for you, but I don't have the game so this is purely based on working with the files at my disposal.Code:V.a.r.i.a.n.t.M.o.d.e.l.s./.U.n.i.t.P.a.r.t.s./.E.u.r.o./.H.a.t.s./.S.c.a.n.d.i.n.a.v.i.a.n._.S.h.a.k.o./.m.e.s.h
Here's the file:

The terrain is well set,for someone who is skilled enought in programming. This would be one of the greatest achivement in TW modding history.Imagine all the glory you'll get.I can write a basic uniform editor, but I don't know that it's worth it as CA's should be out soon.![]()
Hehe. Well, what I have in mind is pretty simple, just something that makes editing the paths and equipment items in the unit_variant file easier. I'm not really a programming wizard or anything, so by the time I get it finished, I'd expect CA to release theirs. It's a Murphy's Law sort of situation.
OT: Do people refer to "Murphy's Law" in non-English speaking countries or do you have another name for "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong"?
If you could release a uniform editor before CA - on your own (without a whole team of ppl like them) that would be a great achievement (and possibly embarrassing for CA
)
What I mean is that:
I want to add to britain a highland light infantry unit, I found out there is a scotland light infantry unit so I thought to add it to britain but icon and info show a scotland blue coat
So I thought to solve it this way: I copied and renamed variant files for scotland light infantry a put them in my mod, copied renamed and changed coats colours for info and icon tga files, result was that if I change faction ID in uniform tables to scotland in game appears old ETW fake texture for generic infantry (the same for icon and info tab), if I set faction ID in uniform tables to britain icon and info tab are ok (red)but while mesh is right, texture is wild crazy
![]()
so I put up a third chance. I opened britain light infantry and britain highland infantry in Hex Workshop (it is an hex editor), swapped hats, and it worked well,so I guess trouble is in atlas directory files, both atlas and dds, if texture and mesh are not present in faction atlas files, meshes/shapes could show up right but textures will be wild crazy. I attach my three version of the mod if someone would like to put a look in it and find a solution

Would this Highland Light Infantry be the 71st Highland (Glasgow) Fusiliers by any chance?![]()
I make it only as a test for swapping parts or units from different factions, but if you want you can do anything you would desire with it
. If you wrote a description text for it and give them a name I'd be very pleased

Hi guys good news it look as you can add as many atlas and dds as you want since prefix in variant is only a pointer to dds and atlas in atlas directory of variantmodels.pack. Such prefix has nothing to do with gameplay factions
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZVQUNCSE
take a look at mod in link aboveit wants to be a dead skull hussars unit for prussia, it lacks description text to be put in localization file but it works, icon and info tga are my own and not really good (make them in a hurry) but I reckon someone will make new ones better
now what we need is good modelers and texture editors to make our new dds, this by modding existing ones (pasting texture from one big dds to another and making related changes in atlas with same prefix, to not affect existing ones we can give to the new one what prefix we want, I give to my one in mod I uploaded pruxy)
cheers
