    Default Map Discussion

I am currently working on an updated map for v1.0. Let me know if anyone has any suggested changes to the version you see now in v0.53

I think the current map quite fulfills the needs of players for accurate set up and relay, no changes would be needed for this version map wise, at least in my opinion, i think most of our concerns regarding this version are linked to the full skinning of all factions and the occurrence of new features discussed all over the forum. Glad to see everything is back on track in development, things have been pretty quiet over here for the past 6 weeks or so

The skinning issue is a difficult one because we currently don't have anybody working on that area and haven't received much interest. I am willing to take it on myself but not very confident in my ability to do so successfully so I think my time is better spent coding for now.

I guess any progress is better than no progress. But what happened to the old skinners, they were doing a great job, have they all lost interest all of a sudden, gone mia or what happened? can't we borrow some from other mods?

First of all, Darkstar it is great to see you back. I have been enjoying the mod tremendously in its current form and you just know that interest will pick up massively due to (i) the HBO series being approved, and (ii) Dance finally having to be finalised one day (right?).

This is a mod which deserves to be worked on and which has so much potential.

Mapwise I have no real comments, save that the Wall would obviously be a nice addition (and the lands beyond the Wall) even without wildlings. There has been a lot of discussion on things which could be iomproved in the below threads (even if they date from a while back now).

Once again, exciting to see this go forward!

Here are ethings that I think should be in:
    Movement rates increased
    The Gates of the Moon
No rebels (each faction with all of it's respective regions)

I agree, although this isn't so much a map sizing beef it does have to do with movement across the map. I wouldn't mind seeing a (slight) increase in the movement of armies. I, personally, find a bit tedious playing as the Starks for example, to move down the neck, seeing as it akes several years/turns. Like I said this is me personally and I don't know if anyone else feels the same way.

No, I'm right there with you. It took Robb 3 years or more to get to The Twins. Criminy, in the books

    he was dead already
    by that point!

If there's either some way to increase movement speed or slow down the passage of time at all (probably not real likely) those would be the best solutions IMHO.

Glad to see some support for the good ol' mod.

About the mod: Valyrian had to leave the team due to real life reasons. Although I got several replies, I never got a skinner working on the mod, except for HannibalExMachina who did some unique generals. All the graphics work in the mod is by LordSnow or Valyrian and both are no longer contributing.

I wasn't really in a position to lead the team given that I've got almost no free time and with no direction, the mod kind of slowed down back into hibernation. However, Darkstar's back

"Five had been his brothers. Oswell Whent and Jon Darry. Lewyn Martell, a prince of Dorne. The White Bull, Gerold Hightower. Ser Arthur Dayne, Sword of the Morning. And beside them, crowned in mist and grief with his long hair streaming behind him, rode Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone and rightful heir to the Iron Throne."

I know there isn't much focus being placed on settlement develop, which make perfect sense, but i think each faction should have a fully developed castle and a fully developed city from which they can train all the avialable troops for their faction (as far as being city or castle specific).

    Does that make sense?

Would make sense, yet it would take some motivation from the game.

In order to make a game addictive you`ll have to reward the player for playing-If everything is available from the start the player will be less motivated to advance.

Exactly. In my opinion it's much more rewarding if you get better stuff during the game and not right from the start.

I agree, but at the present (i beleive) you can't build a better barracks or stable or upgrade a settlement. If this was changed then of course by all means make the player work for it. my suggestion was based off of my thinking that you wouldnt be able to build any major buildings.

    edit: holy crap 1,000 post

I more castles (since there was many more than on the actual map) also i think that maybe a overlay of the colors for each region over the actual colors. sorta like all the riverlands places while having the normal green for fields and stuff would have a sorta tinge of blue and red, it would make it look really cool on the over view map too. it would be sorta like this map(http://gameofthrones.net/images/West..._Political.gif), but with all the details of the actual geography.

Maybe you could include a passageway from the Riverlands into the Westerlands which bypasses the Golden Tooth, which only Robb Stark can detect and use?

This is possible through the settng of movement points in descr_characters. But it is not advisable - it will slow down rounds at the later stage of the game due to increased processor load with the pathfinding.
A better solution would be to incorporate multiple turns per year. GreenEyedDevils script comes very handy there - 4, 6 or 12 turns per year, including skripting for slower movement in winter and stuff like that.

Not possible unfortunately. But it could be skripted that a certain character (name must be known and unique) could be moved from a certain area to a second spot on the map. Not sure if that would move his army as well.

There's a mod of Westeros for Europa Universalis III. It has a lot of regions. It can give you some ideas for the new map!
