    Default Mother-in-Laws

Seriously, whats the deal with them (mostly in-law to daughter-in-law)? This problem seems to occur all over the world, ranging from each cultures. I can see a reason in the Western world as most marriage, if not all, stems from love and romance, and the in-law might not like her new daughter/son. But on the other side of the planet where arranged-marriages is the dominant one, cases there are a lot worse. If you don't like your new daughter-in-law, why the hell did you get your son married to her in the first place. Also MOST of the times its not even the daughter's fault, its as if the mother hates her from the day of the of the marriage. Discuss

I think parents in general have a difficult time letting go of the dependence their children had. It could be that they dont feel the person is good enough for their kid, or they may be testing them wondering what the depth of their love is (many parents mistakenly think they have a say). I've never actually witnessed a real example of in-laws attacking the partner of one of their children.

The abuse they get in South Asia, the daughter-in-laws, are quite disturbing.

Mother in laws bah. I got dressed this morning and went into the mother in laws bedroom she was sat up in bed with tears in her eyes listing to her record or Hitler's speeches, she didn't see me of course she was too busy picking cabbage out of her teeth with her iron cross. I felt so good this morning I told her a funny story and she nearly died laughing lol, still better luck tomorrow.

The other year tragidy struck the mother law in came round and she had been in nasty accident at work a bit of messy affair. Apparently a hot rivet had dropped down her draws and she fell of the oil rig. They had a hell of job rescuing her because shes so fat she capsized a tanker and ruptured a diver. She has always been a violent women but after the accident she got worse until finnaly one night at a house of ill repute I saw lying down in a pool of cheap gin and tonic water and six big men were kicking the poor cow and hitting her with bar stools, one of was my neighbour and he said 'are you going help?' I said no six of them should be enough.

MIL tends to give her DIL more hell. I guess its because mother tends to be closer to her son.

Most married people I know like their mother in law and vice versa, so I'm guessing it's either a completely baseless stereotype or it's a leftover from previous generations when there was a larger inter-generational change in attitudes.

u gotta realise, psychologically. mothers will inevitably get jealous of their daughters in laws when they realise their son is going to prioritize another woman

Let me discuss this situation in China, since you already has "the western world" covered.
Chinese don't arrange their marriage anymore in cities. I can't say much about the countryside though. Since the man/woman choose a spouse he/she likes the mother is not gonna have a lot of say in the decision, and due to cultural custom a lot of parents live with their offspring into old age so daily frictions are inevitable. This is especially bad if the lifestyle of the mother is in conflict with the lifestyle of the in law, which the mother probably don't have much prior knowledge of.

" Also MOST of the times its not even the daughter's fault, its as if the mother hates her from the day of the of the marriage."

    ShADoW,

When a son takes a wife one must never forget that his mother once was the be all and end all for him and for her. Girls have a tendancy towards their fathers, don't have any quibble about falling out with their mothers, knowing that daddy is there for consolation. Now the wife takes on a new threat to the mother and she feels it as she watches her beloved son give emotion to this new woman in his life, something that perhaps was not given to herself.

So the mothers in law out there are always watching out for their sons, seeing to them being fed properly, looked after properly and most of all are happy. Sometimes what is seen as interefering becomes too overwhelming for the new bride especially if she lets it get so. After all she now has mummy's little darling not realising that she also has mummy. The surest way round that is to insist that she is now her daughter and will love to call her mum.

As for the son, it is his duty to give in equal measure the love that both seek and deserve. It is not his duty to turn away whenever friction rises up, but to sort it out at source, bringing harmony where it should be. If he is a wimp, he will stand back, making matters worse rather than better. As the wife grows and her own family appears especially having sons she will go through the same emotions the day they find these certain women.

Whatever you read: It's still illegal to kill them!!

    What was the question?
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "
