    Default Drivers

i'm not really having any issues with my pc, i was just wondering, how exactly do drivers work? is newer always better?

for example, why would older drivers work better for an older game, can't the newer drivers keep the same thing they did (whatever they do) for older games and just keep upgrading for new ones? i never understood this. like when a game works great on older drivers, and not as great on some newer ones, why is that? can't they keep whatever they did right with the older ones and move from there? or does it work more on a game to game basis, in that every game is different, but i still see no reason why that would be an issue?

sorry if my question isn't understandable, as english isn't my native language. i'll try to elaborate more if you can't understand it

A driver is a special type of computer program. Most drivers are simple things, but some key drivers (like video drivers for gaming) are very complicated. Like any complicated computer program that's being changed all the time, bugs can be added by mistake. If a new release of a driver causes a problem in some old game that no one much plays anymore, it might not even show up in testing; and if it does, then it might be too much effort to figure out what's causing the problem, compared to the gain. It's basically the same reason you get bugs in new releases of any computer program.
