Default Nvidia GTX cards and Empire don't mix??

Remember the screen "Works best with NVidia"? Apparently not with the GTX series..

I spent several frustrating hours research why my GTX card crashes on start up. In researching this on the Internet, I was surprised that there are still active posts on .COM, the NVidia forum, and everywhere else regarding the GTX cards. Problems range from crashes on startup to all sorts of CTD issues.

I recently upgraded to GTX275 (factory overclocked) video card from a 9800 GT. Empire immediately crashes on startup. Did the familar old delete script files -- CTD, deleted Empire and reinstalled - CTD, deleted Steam and reinstalled -- CTD. Then used the 181.22 driver and nothing. Still crashing on startup.

ATI runs fine. I tried using an HD57 series card -- no issue. Tried the 9800 GT card -- no issue.

This is pretty pathetic. Creative Assembly needs to work better with NVidia to solve this problem.

I have GTX 275. I have never had any crashes on startup but I do get a noticable amount of crashes in battles.

I do however have a problem with flashing textures, especially on campaign map. The whole screen starts to flash and strange object (like brown 3d triangles across the whole screen) appear. It happens every 10 to 15 minutes but rapidly switching between theatres usually fixes it for the next few minutes.

Is your card overclocked by chance or not?

Not by me but I'm not sure if it is factory-overclocked or not. But I don't think it is.

What driver are you using (version)? Is your card overclocked? I'm asking as I am trying to narrow down where the incompatibility is.

Absolutely ridicious that CA doesn't bother to answer questions on the .COM site. Tech issues with this game are left up to the community to solve.

I have a NVIDIA 9800GT and was having issues on ETW with the latest drivers. I loaded the older 181.22 drivers and had no issues.

I am now suspecting that my issue is being caused by the fact that I own 2 copies of Empire. My son uses one on his PC. I'm thinking that I may be trying to install his installed copy on my PC.

If thats the case and the cause of the problem, it is incredibly idiotic that the game crashes instead of providing a helpful troubleshooting message. Between CA and STEAM, and Empire, they have all soured me on NTW and future TW games.

I have a GTX 275 and I hardly ever get crashes (playing DMUC of course)

My new gaming laptop has GTX260m in it and I played a custom battle on it yesterday and had no issues

however I have not updated the drivers and serveral version behind, I'm at work right now so I'm away from my desktop but on my laptop I'm running 195.16.

The version on my desktop in even older but I can't remeber the exact version ATM

I have 2 x GTX280m in my laptop and it runs ETW DMUC pretty much on ultra without much issue, I do have to have the SLI disabled though I use 186.81 have tied a couple of the later ones but have not seen any noticeable impact and none seem to work with SLI enabled even after trying and tweaking with nHancer

Yes as well as ATI, both companies have problem with drivers and support for those drivers. Now for the doing something part, you could post in the nvidia thread created by irishron, so a feeddback is passed to nvidia
