    Default population level and city upgrade

    Hi,

    In a few cities or castles I reached population level to upgrade settlement but upgrade icon didn't appear on construction tab.
    Over 300 hundred people beyond a required population?!
    What's going on?

    Stainless Steel has different (higher) requirements for settlements upgrade. If you do a quick search on this forum you'll find the numbers.

    Also, in case you're using the RR/RC compilation, keep in mind that not all cities are upgradeable to huge cities. Only capitols, and a select few important cities will be able to reach the final size.

    Hmmmm... lemmie see here...As of SS6.2

    1. villiage to town 1,000 population.
    2. town to city: 3,000 population
    3. city to minor city: 9,000 population.
    4. wooden castle to stone castle: 3,000 population
    5. castle upgrade 1: 7,500 population.

    Those wiser than me....Please correct info if wrong, and fill in the missing sizes if you wish...

    <!-- city -->
    <level name="village" base="500" upgrade="1000" min="500" max="1500"/>

    taken from descr_settlement_mechanics.xml of my RR/RC version. Basevalues are the necessary upgrade values.

    They are the same in 6.2 (without RR/RC)

    Code:
    upgrade to town              1000
    upgrade to large_town        3000
    upgrade to city              9000
    upgrade to large_city        17000
    upgrade to huge_city         34000

    upgrade to wooden_castle       1000
    upgrade to castle              3000
    upgrade to fortress            8500
    upgrade to citadel             17000
    repost for better visuals.... and as sbroadbent mentioned with 6.2 this numbers seem to be the universal ones for ss and submods.

    I have two moot_and_baileys with over 1500 population (1580 and 1623) and I couldn't upgrade them.

    From my understanding moot_and_baileys can't have more then 1500 but I never tried. Search for the file descr_settlement_mechanics.xml in your stainless_steel_6 folder, open it with notepad (windows text editor) and scroll down until you find entries similar to
    Code:
    <level name="moot_and_bailey" base="500" upgrade="1000" min="500"  max="1500"/>
    <level name="wooden_castle" base="1000" upgrade="3000" min="500"  max="5000"/>
    I'd expect you to have totally different values there - if not the problem lies with another file.
    Please post your results here again.

    OK.

    I think I found reason of this strange behavior of the game.
    I use Battle for Baltic and I forgot about erase "map.rwm".
    After I deleted it, everything seems to be ok.

    Sorry for all that mess
    It was my fault!
