Default Rome Total War Barbarian Invasion stuff.

I am going to buy Rome total war barbarian invasion soon and i was wondering what is it like? I heard that their are now 72 territorys, not like the 103 in the first rome total war. Does that improve your gameplay? Also what new faction's are there and new units and religion's? Also i would be glad if someone posted a map of what Barbarian invasion, campaign map so i can see what it look's like. Thought's and comment's please thank you.

well i prefer regular total war, because i like that time period more. but there are mods that use bi.exe that are very good too.

but bi is dirt cheap now anyway, so its not a mistake to buy it

As i asked would the game play improve because of the fewer settlements now? Or would the new religion and buildings and factions and traits all make up for that? By the way can anyone supply a picture of the Map of Barbarian Invasion on this thread? I would love to see it!

I am sorry but I cannot find a pic of the campaign map. However I can tell you that it definitely affects the gameplay, and the border lines are completely redrawn for each province.

This is how it affects gameplay:

    Religions: Public Order and Units
Hordes: Most barbarian factions form their units into hordes when all their lands are taken, which are usually full stacks of low-quality units and some good ones, once the hordes have taken a settlement, their units decrease.
Emergent: Some factions dont appear until a certain event has happened. Or a certain year is reached.

Other than that, there are two large empires, Roman East and Rome West, both empires will be destroyed by barbarians (happens 75% of the time), and if their lucky enough they will survive.
If you want a real challenge, go play one of the two empires, especially the Western Roman Empire, the Eastern Empire is a bit easier.

Or go take Italy as a horde-starting faction such as the huns

The WRE is simply too hard, actually. No matter your best efforts, you still have riots in at least 6 cities by the beginning of the next turn. Next turn you lost some provinces because of the elusive Western Roman Rebels. And, because of the quality of your cities and their Uber-barracks, you mostly end up with some units, a few good oness, and a general against a bunch of good ones on WALLS.

    1.play on a lower dificulty.
2.once your epire stabalises your epicly powerful.
3.disband the units as to recruite better ones.
4.if a settlement if majorly uhappy its ussaly because you have to chage their religion

I played Barbarian Invasion as one of the Barbarian Factions. The Goths I think.

I walked my horde all the way to Rome and conquered it.

Personally, I think the horde mechanic is a little bit overpowered, as a human player can march to Rome and conquer it so easily.

Of course, thats not really in the spirit of the game, but i'm just passing on my experiences once I complete Rome Total War, i'll have a go at WRE for a real challenge

    1. This happens on even Easy difficulty

    2. True, but that takes a stern will and alot of time

    3. That makes your situation even worse; You can only recruit legions in Italy and
Carthage, and they will be too little too late to help your troops in Spain and Gaul, or even be part of the rebellion! Plus you only have 1,000 Denarii to start with and a single unit of Comitatenses Legionaries costs nearly 900 Denarii. So if anything just stick it out with what you've got

    4. That makes it even worse most of the time, seeing as you don't even have enough money to change the religion fully, and different governors have different religions that makes it even MORE tricky(Like a Pagan governor in a Christian settlement = BAD NEWS), seeing as you don't even have enough governors in the first place!

    So that strategy doesn't work.

    @Patrick

Yes there are Crossbowmen in-game, they are for the WRE and they are called Bucellarii

dude if you carn't win on easy, then why bother posting? on easy just lower the tax rates and bingo no more rebelling (dosn't work on normal or above)

My stragety would be for the WRE is to, let them rebel. Once so then exterminate the populace or just sack it for money. Taking away the garrisions and raising th tax level will speed uo the rebellion a lot. Recruit loads of mercenarys to and deploy lots of cavalry.

Also, the Romans are much less powerful than they are in the original Rome: Total War. Playing as either the Eastern or Western Empire adds a unique challenge to the game that is worth purchase for its own sake. I've never bothered playing as the barbarians; however, the horde mechanic can cause some serious challenges for both Roman and Barbarian factions, especially those pesky Huns!

Thanks for the map! I got the Golden edition of Rome total war today. I played as the WRE. I lowered tax and where ever possible intrduced games. This stop the rebellions. Then i united my two field armies and moved them into the alemina (or what ever they are called) territory, they are south of the Franks. Anyway that money i got from capturing the city supplied new troops to decrease any rebellion. This is all in the first two turns. Right now large construction projects are going on and the development of large armies! With crossbow men! Christianity is hard to introduce since most settlements are pagan and get really pissed when you destroy the temple. Right now i am dealing with the WRE rebels and trying to make peace with other factions. Any tips help and more would help a lot as the vandals and Huns are on the move!

i can give a tip, if your city is red and your pretty sure it will rebel, take all troops out, and put them like right next to the town. When it does rebel (it certainly should now), the army given will usually have one good unit, the faction leaders body gaurd. So if you can get spearmen of overwhelming numbers then you should be able to easily take and sack the city.

I havent played in forever, but the only way i rember to deal with hordes is let them attack, and then massacure them at choke points in the city or if you can on the wall. Im pretty sure bodygaurds in this game are made up of supermen, and them+ one/two units of half decent infantry can hold a street against a whole horde, and really tear them up, especially if you have archers behind. it might be kind of a cheap trick but it comes in handy after like the 3rd horde lol.
