Hi Everyone,
I'm interested in getting N:TW but only for the drop-in battles as otherwise I'll stick to Empire.
So, is it worth getting just to get the drop-in battles?
Thanks,
James

I would say no. At least not yet. The poll "is drop-in working" has 12 yes, 16 no.
I've had 3 working ones, 2 joined a battle of mine, 1 time I got an invite that I accepted (it pops up and you have 10 seconds to yes/no) - so I missed the first one.
Unfortunately, I haven't gotten any invites now in the last week (in about 12 hours of playing time) and the 3 times I tried to find someone I waited about 20 minutes w/o a connection.
Some say that Steam has it set to your download regions, which obviously limits the pool of players you can see & connect to.
The greatest oversight by CA (IMO) is that if you go into multiplayer and seek to join a drop-in... and none is immediately available, it will join you with someone else who's seeking a drop-in. And then both players get sent to some perfectly balanced, small unit (no purchase) pickup fight. Which is absolutely not what interests me at all.
Hopefully after a patch they'll greatly improve it. The 3 fights I did have were all good fun.
Once you get your regions set right for steam yes they are quite common to get a drop in battle (nice always fun having a human run a battle.
But it is also worth it for the improvements made over ETW is it perfect ah no not at all but it better polished than ETW i would say its at the state that ETW should have been when they released it.
The problem with drop ins is they tend to be very rare for many people. I have been playing a campaign and although I have dropped into other peoples campaigns I have not had ONE person dropping into mine. So I would say the answer is no, because you will be playing against the AI most of the time anyway, and I have to say the BAi is still pretty aweful.
Not had one yet - fairly disappointing.
I hope they patch the system to give you more options and so that it most definitely does not just drop you into a quick MP skirmish against your will.
I must say I'm a huge fans of the drop-in battles; I've had people dropping into my battles 12 times now (not every battle is drop-in enabled, only somewhat balanced ones) and it is a totally different experience,
both with respect to the battle gameplay and to the result they have on your campaign (humans tend to inflict much more damage and know where it hurts most).
But getting NTW just for the drop-in battles? I'd also go with no... (there are other things that make NTW worthwhile over ETW, but that's another story)

Respecto Patronum
NTW is worth buying anyway since it improves over ETW vanila and adds new features (custom strong generals in BAI and CAI, new graphics/visuals and music, new CAI features like attrition and logistic...) and the drop-in battles DO work like a charm... in my case I had to add steam calls to my firewal and I have been getting inviations as well as joining some online battles... I lost Austria yesterday to a German player playing as Austria... very cool... my campaign had a set back indeed...
Note: with a little adjustment (FBR mod) the BAI also behaves 10X better than vanila ETW
