    Default Spontaneously worsening relations

I'm playing as Gondor on H/H, and am trying and failing to get alliances or any sort of relations with other good factions. Most games I can do just find getting alliances with everyone else, but as Gondor for some reason my relations with other factions (particularly High Elves and Eriador) keep deteriorating and are now very poor, despite my doing basically nothing to them. I have trade rights with them, they turned down a swap of maps and an alliance with me at the beginning, so since then I've done basically nothing with them. Yet at the beginning of the round I get a message saying that our relations have worsened. The only thing that really has happened is my ongoing fight with Harad and Mordor.

I got an alliance right away with the Silvan elves, but Dwarves and Dale seem similarly intractable. My relations with both are poor at the moment. Giving small gifts of maps and/or money had no effect, and now they are refusing even gifts.

Anyone know why my relations are worsening seemingly without reason? It's not a HUGE problem, but I'd to ally with the other good factions for story reasons. That and it seems to prevent them fighting among themselves.

I find the "good" factions pretty isolationists, there seems to be no way to make them to declare war upon an evil faction until it's under attack.
It's only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything.

Check which factions they are at war and peace with. If you are at war with an ally of theirs or vice versa the relations will worsen. Relations also automatically worsen on anything harder then Normal/Normal.

    Did you check your breath?
that's the main reason for most rejections

    haha guess that's it

but to the point.. some factions are just stubborn i guess.. or it has to do with distance that they don't see the point? but it's quite lore cause the dwarfs really stayed to themselves.. and gondor rohan thought of elves dwarves as legends.. so there wasn't much contact lore..

    that thread above explained it:

in anything harder then normal your relations just keep deteriorating with every faction, to the point where they will simply declare war on you for apparently no other reason than living in the same planet.

how do i know this? start a game of MTW2. try to be friends with the french/danish/spanish/portuguese/any faction. if you dont really play the diplomatic card, expect to be at war with at least 5 factions by turn 40.

the most ive managed to delay war in the normal game was something like 55 turns, and it was HARD!
i would be attacked, mostly in france, but sometimes in england as well by the danes' hand. i would destroy, capture and sell them back their prisoners. then after 2 turns they would sue for peace, and i would use this as a chance to get extorsion money back (5000 florins each time, and me paying 20000 for a small town if i wanted territorial vindication). kept this up for 50 turns until i was powerful enough to destroy them anyway.

in tatw its esentially the same. unless you strive for peace and good relations with a faction the whole game, getting an alliance is hard as .

there are some ways however you can force alliances, and the main one is to simply buy them off.

capture a small village (one of those crappy ones with 400 pop.). any village. hell, if your rohan get fangorn, a village with low revenue. go to the faction you wanna ally and tell them alliance, and also click on give settlement. give them the settlement. depending on just how it is you might have to sweeten the deal with map information and money from your pocket. this is usually enough to garner an alliance.

also, if you can somehow stack that kind of money, simply buy their alliance with cold hard cash. even if they hate you and the ground you step on they are all greedy bastards, and playing as gondor you could potentially go to Mordor and ask them for ceasefire then alliance with them if you had something like 60000 cash

The same problem with evil factions.

Try to ally with isengard at the beginning as OotMM when we have perfect relationship, I still have to give them 500 per turn for 15 turn and trade right and map to reach alliance. Then ally with Mordor, they refuse until I give them a little village (which is taken away immediately by elves )

Relationship with other evil factions drops steadily from perfect to currently good even though I haven't met some of them like Harad and Easterling .
