    Default Reformed Phalanx

OK, so I was playing as the Makedonians and I decided to invade Italy, when I suddenly realised that I might miss out on reformed phalanxes. Am I actually missing out on reformed phalanxes? Are they worth waiting for, while I let the Romani build an Imperial Palace? Thanks in advance

Rome has to build an Imperial Palace in a city Italy excluding Rome itself. So if you take the Roman cities, you're going to be waiting longer for them Reformed Phalangites. And if you destroy the Romans outright, you're never going to see them. I'd wait for them. They look totally awesome and are just slightly weaker then your Elite Phlangites.

Their reformed phalanxes are indeed worth waiting for. Decent stats as a unit but the major bonus is that ,unlike Pezhetairoi and Argyraspides, the reformed ones can be recruited all over the place.

In Southern Italy, almost everywhere in Greece, the west coast of Anatolia, Cyrene, Egypt, Syria, mesopotamia and I also think Baktria.
Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they are in good company.

What if we are using the city mod and there are only a couple of cities in Italy that can become huge?

Cool, would it be ok if I built up a city to an imperial palace, gave it to the Romani and then would the reforms happen? It just seemed quicker than letting the stupid computer do it itself

You may have to have the Romans do the building of the Palace, so you could build the city up to the point where it had a population of 23999 with positive growth, and then give it to the Romans. They should build the Palace in a few turns or so.

Nope, you can build the palace yorself before giving it to the Romans. Screws up their culture balance, too, har har. (This will come in handy when you take the city again).

Better close combat skills (attack/defense), better armour, cooler looks (IMO; though the basic pezhetairoi already look great, another example of EB's masterful and subtle factional colour coding). Slightly lower stamina and heat resistance though.
    Also, AFAIK increased AoR.
