Default Pakistan to ask EU for compensation for being the frontline state in the war on terror in terms of greater market access

    http://beta.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect...tion-730-rs-05

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will ask for compensation for losses it suffered for being the frontline state in the war on terror in terms of greater market access at the European Union Summit scheduled in April.

Commerce ministry officials said that Pakistan would place three proposals for enhanced trade through facilitation and market access in the EU, sources told Dawn on Saturday.

Pakistan’s delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the summit and officials of commerce ministry will accompany him.

According to presentations prepared by the commerce ministry, Pakistan being the frontline state in the war on terror has suffered over $45 billion worth of economic losses during the past few years.

According to the first option, Islamabad will ask the European Union members to sign a free trade agreement with Pakistan.

The second option calls upon the EU to accord Pakistan Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) ‘Plus’ status for enhanced trade market access.

The third option says that EU leaders should consider immediate concession regime for Pakistan to compensate its trade losses by allowing import duty concessions in products of Pakistan’s exports interest.
This is the dumbest request at the EU that a state has ever bring.

What the has EU related to the war of terror?

They can't just go and ask to NATO or UN for those compensations?

It is because the dumbest and the most corrupt people are ruling our country, we have lost more than 35 million dollars for a shameless job. Even if today we cut nato supply line, America would give us more than we are getting on shameful conditions. We are just being ruled by thugs and goons, first they were from military now they are civilians.

This is a good idea. This will create more jobs, which will turn the youth away from things like terrorism, as well as increase the growth rate of Pakistan's economy, not to mention that Pakistani goods would be good for the European market.

I feel that your way of presenting the free trade proposal is far superior to the way the Pakistani government put it.

Personally I think they shot themselves in the foot by presenting it the way they did.

How did the Government put it?

that, Pakistan is a front line because they sat on their asses and did nothing for years and years. They helped create this problem, they don't deserve in "compensation."
America wants to stop terrorism, yes? Well then it should realize that creating jobs is more useful against the creation of terrorists and the perversion of youths as compared to bombing FATA through drone strikes.

Basicly they say "you owe it to us". Your way of saying it is more polite and points more toward mutual benefit than white mans guilt. Therefore I consider it to be a superior way of saying it.

Apart from that, it is the ISI itself that is to blame for Pakistan's being a frontier state in the War on Terrorism. Somebody built up all those Taliban and supplied them, in order to destabilize Afghanistan.

We deserved what you offered to Turkey in return of Turkish help against Iraq, but the denied and we bowed our heads like idiots. Still if we cut supply line of those morons and goons, America would beg us to accept much money that she is giving us. And well said we are responsible. Who funded past mujahidins and present terrorists? we know.

I would welcome giving Pakistan greater trade agreements, on condition that we sent people over there to take over some of their companies in order to ensure that the money was used to best effect.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

I support this as no body denies that we are being ruled by some corrupt bastards and we also want to make it sure that any money given to those bastards should be spent on people of Pakistan not on their luxuries.

At least we do not vote morons and terrorists like George Bush twice. And I do not support Nawaz Sharif. They are all same.

The difference is, the USA system of government's insures that idiots like Bush don't get voted in more than twice, and don't rob the country while they're at it. Pakistan's, on the other hand, is based on some pseudo-British BS, so it doesn't really guarantee much. And who do you support then, Jamaat-e-Islami?

The EU will benefit from the trade, as Pakistani goods are often cheaper than those from other asian countries.

Big picture, whats more likely to change the nature of Pakistan?

    More war?
    Free trade?

How they present it, who cares.
