    Bigger units, NP: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=341103

400 inf (all inf) 100 cav & 10 gun batteries.

    Back to topic though.

    @ panzerschreck,

How do you mean Merge Units? what is the command in battle screen?

In fact you mix them, you make your second unit advance at exactly the same place as the first unit.

Also, this is very nice. I did it other way, but one problem is still there, they shoot eachother, but this is realistic!

I don't believe this is practical to set up in the heat of battle...it seems a bit gimmicky to me.

of course it's not practical, but if you train it a bit, you will have a bit more practice and it's certainly more real that to press on a button and have a perfect 2 rank square. I don't believe that soldiers could make in the battle a 4 rank square in 1 minute. So much time, must be more accurate.

What we see forming on the field is a rally square. Or if you like a company square. Since we are fighting with companies and calling them battalions/regiments.

Besides units would form squares when they saw cavalry. Otherwise there was not time. The battles are short. With the time we have to fight battles it is not practical. Neat visuals are nice the first time. You would soon grow tired of watching 10 companies marching and counter-marching to form Battalion Square of 1000 men.

Cool except for the fact its completely counterproductive as you will sustain massive casualities from Friendly Fire.

    It works well.
I did a custom battle with 4 units of British Elite Guard + Wellington, vs Napoleon and an almost full stack of French Light Cavalry.
It took a while to make the squares properly, my first few attempts resulted in the units forming two squares which crossed over instead of one large square. After I sorted that though, it was fine.

There was a bit of friendly fire, I think I lost 10 soldiers or so.
That might have been because my squares weren't perfect though.

Here is a screenshot I took of the aftermath:

perhaps this is why...infantry units should be listed as battalions and not regiments...as they were proper fighting formation of the time. Everyone from this period going back to Marlborough speak in terms of battalions and not regiments. If I could get it to work, I would change this myself for my mod.
