Anyone willing to state a few brief sentences about how to approach the campaigns?

    - Currently feeling overwhelmed with the task.
    - The in-game tutorial did little to help me.
    - I played ETW for all of one week, but drowned in the deepness of the game and lost interest.

Hey Pal NTW is more focused than ETW and you have 3 campaigns to choose from playing Napoleon.

Start with the Italian campaign which is much shorter and with more limited objectives as you advance. You practically have to fight the Austrians only after taking Turin. Just follow the advices of the lady should get you going. First play on easy to acquaint yourself to the environment, buildings, arms, geography, etc. You can restart one on higher difficulty. Get Napoleon in your field armies since you get huge bonus in battles.

After you go through this one, go to Egypt. It is a different settiing with a small tech tree that you can learn to manage. Here you have to fight on three fronts and also have to worry about the British who can land near Alexandria if you play on normal or higher. Once you got through these two, you should be a hardened veteran strategist ready to conquer Europe.

    Good playing!

economy first, military last...any research and tech that reduces costs, boosts income, trade etc. Don't spend $$ until you absolutely have to.

What kokonut said. I figure those campaigns present a good learning curve. Other than that, take a "one-thing-at-the-time" approach. Try out some custom battles and play around with different army compositions and factions to discover your own playstyle. Play the campaign and take it slow, learning new things as you play. Dont be afraid to experiment just to see what happens if you do certain things. And do not be afraid to "loose". See it as a learning process. Before you know it, you will have a good grasp of the game and its different aspects. That is when you come online and start over with the learning-process (Atleast for battles).

I also recommend this; http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=339227 (Credits to "brandybarrel" for creating it). A complete guide of different units and their stats.
