    Default windows 7 not responding

Ok guess my honeymoon is over with windows 7 (64bit) since Ive been getting alot of "not responding" on applications lately. None of the typical guilty suspects (ie virus, spyware etc) are present and look around it seems alot of people are running into same issue in heavy io operations where windows 7 just decides its going to take a 10+ second nap. Problem is no one seems to have any pattern on what is causing it, some have evidently solved it by disabling things like AVG real time virus scanning but others it has no impact on (like myself). Its driving me nuts, I cant find any specific bottleneck going on when it happens I mean yeah it seems to happen when heavy disk access but vista, xp ever handle such things without even blinking and there is no reason windows 7 should be choking on regular usage. Anyone else experiencing the "not responding" crap if so any clue what is causing YOURS?

I havn't run into a single error on Windows 7 after 4 months of use. Such an issue is very difficult to pinpoint, if it were happening to me I'd just re-install the OS.

I have not had any issues whatsoever with my install of 7 Pro 64. I haven't played OFP:R on it yet but in Vista I always had the problems you are describing while I was playing it. If I do get a lock-up, it seems to be due to extreme GPU and CPU load, such as when I'm playing COH:Normandy44 and ArmA 2.

How much RAM do you have and what is your proc? That could be alot of the issue. When I had my really old Presario running XP, with a 500Mghz K6 and 256MB RAM, the damn thing would constantly freeze and crash when it was idling.

Heh yeah I know Ive gone thru all that and my specs are *well* beyond what window 7 needs (6 gigs of ram, quad core, ati 4870x2). Its wierd checking various windows forums seems quite a few people ARE having problems with it. Up til now win 7 has been running flawless for me and there has been real installs of new software, drivers to screw it up and hardware is working fine (dual booting into win xp machine runs smooth as silk). So Im really at a lost for what is causing it. Drivers are up to date and only updateddriver since it started was video drivers but the problem started *before* that. No malware, spyware or virus problem...Im baffled

And its *not* really doing it during gameplay, the problem is strictly desktop related for the most part. Case in point opened Chrome, opened winamp had like 4 tabs open then opened rar to unzip something went back to chrome opened a tab...computer decided to go bye bye for 10 seconds with "not responding". So to me that indicates disk io issues, checked for one of the drives possibly dying but nope they are fine and same actions on xp work fine.

    Mghz?

Both the CPU and RAM exceeded the minimum requirements, it was something else.

I've never had any trouble with 7 and not responding errors. It might be a corrupted system file. Try re-installing Windows 7 and see what happens

I can't say I've been experiencing any problems like that, you might be running into issues if your still running the Beta or RC1 versions as they are designed to stop working from the end of last month I believe. If not and your running a normal version I would run MSCONFIG>Startup tab and disable everything that's booting up in the background and reboot and see if your still getting the same issues.
