Default I captured a roman eagle!

Ok i'm playing as the franks and i just owned a western roman stack including a first cohort and in doing so i campured a roman eagle, i then got an event saying it was taken to one of my cities and that the romans will stop at nothing to get it back.

So does this mean that the romans are gonna costantly try to campure that city?

It just makes the romans hate you more, so they are less likely to agree to peace while you still have that city. I dont think it has any other effect, but I may be wrong...

It also gives the victorious general a trait for each Eagle your capture, I believe. This was the case in R:TW at least, don't know about BI.

An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep - Alexander the Great

    Hi there.
    Truly a great victory.
And yes, the romans will keep an extra charp sword in your direction for a very long time now. Makes the game more fun (on higher difficulty levels that is).
And, if I am not mistaken, the trait gained by the general who captured the eagle, gives a 3+ command stars when fighting romans.

One general in my faction captured atleast 40 of those things, it was truly demoralizing for the Romans :p

    Hi there.
Capturing even one in a single campaign is damn near impossible. To be honest I do not believe you, since 40 eagles, that is destroying 40 first cohorts in detail. In one campaign!!

It's possible since Rome can produce first cohorts out of Rome. It wouldn't have any effect past the third eagle thought..

Though it is more probable that he just DESTROYED 40 first-cohorts. Not all destroyed first cohorts give up an eagle though. I tested this on 1.0 vanilla when I edited the txt files so that all roman factions can produce first-cohorts in all cities with barracks that can produce legionary cohorts. I kept getting attacked with stacks of first-cohorts but not every victory results in a captured eagle.

Erm...I captured 2 eagles as the Saxons within a single turn. One of them because a retarded army retreated into a nearly empty city, and the other was the ambush preceding that turn(which was epic...it is always cool to see elite units get slaughtered).

Indeed but capturing 40 eagles means: cheating very hard, or you're a damn good, well known, 24/7 gamer. Or you just had luck but if you happen to run in to 40 eagles you're god mate because I think the chance is 1:10000000etc.

Hmm i don't realy like to see pictures as proof of evidence, i believe delta got 2 eagles because thats possible. But i realy like to see the picture of ShADoW's general who captured 40 eagles. I believe he's lieing about that.

EDIT: I read that you need a heroic victory to get 2 crossed swords on the campaignmap, i've got several heroic victories in my Julii campaign, but I NEVER got the crossed swords. How do you get those?

It was a back and forth invasion on one of the province. Always removed my general when the Romans would invade again, so he wouldn't die.

Besides it was on easy when it happened.

Its not totally impossible, neither is it very possible to get 40 eagles in one campaign. I have only captured up to 2 in a single campaign and on hard mind you! However I will not remove the possibility of capturing that many assuming the stupid romans were dumb enough to make that many eagles to attack you. Thats also assuming they still have Rome at that point of time, which you should have actually captured so if you didn't, your skills say something about you.......that they have this long to make 40 eagles.........

You get a eagle when you FULLY destroy a First Cohort and win the battle.

Well I have destroyed two first cohorts in my current campaign and got no eagle.
Or is it because the battle was too small? There were only four enemy unit - two first cohorts and two limitanei.

A First Cohort has to be completely destroyed. If even one survivor escapes, you don't get the eagle.

Thats why I always feed first cohorts cheap troops, rout the weaker limitanei, foedarii lanciarii and any mercs, and then hit the first cohort with cav from all four directions simulataneously. Once they rout, there is no chance of a single soldier escaping with the eagle. Even then this doesnt always happen. Its always satisfying when you do actually capture an eagle though.
