    Icon8 Rebel turn CTD

    Hello chaps,

    I am a long time lurker, first time poster. I would like to begin by saying DLV is an amazing mod, I really do appreciate all the work that has been put in, none more evident than the awesomeness of the game itself.

    I am having a problem with the end turn, my campaign is in the year 1249 (or1250?) and when I end turn it cycles through all the factions but when it comes to the Independent Soverenities it crashes to desktop (I am playing as the Romans).

    I have a clean install of DLV+the patch, I have activated nearly everything other than total war and the points system (yes I know, not a true DLV player...).

    I have searched the forums on this topic, I have tried finishing the turn on mute, with no toggle_fow, deleted the .bin files and nothing seems to work. I am really enjoying my file, hence my desperating now in trying to save it.

    Anyone got any ideas? Or should I post my save here?

    Again thankyou for the mod, it is thoroughly enjoyable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Apologies if I have been completely blind in my forum searches if this question has indeed been answered.

    Many thanks,
    HRW

    Open the DLV_ext.cfg file in the mods/DLV_ext folder. Add this to the the bottom of it.

    log [log]
    to = logs/system.log.txt
    level=*script* trace

    Hrmmm, I did that but unfortunately it still crashed at the rebel turn and said the same 'unspecified error' message. Was this supposed to give me the name of the crash? Or something like that? I have to end task to remove the crash, otherwise it just sits there on my desktop...

    @HistoryRewriter

    There should be a txt. file called system.log in your Medieval II Total War folder. If you find it, copy/paste the last 100 lines or so here (preferably inside a spoiler to avoid page stretch).

    Looks similar to many 'rebel turn' CTDs I've had. I've asked again and again and tried everything but all to no avail I'm afraid my friend. You will prob get the usual few thrown at you - some of which you've already tried. As Windows 7 is now out, and you haven't specified what OS you have, you will prob get the UAC one thrown at you too.

    I've tried, deleting .bins, making sure the main medieval .cfg file and the DLV_ext.cfg are the same, deleting map.rwm, the 'Kingdoms display fix', reinstall, reinstall, reinstall etc. The bottom line is that it seems that the price we pay for a mod of such genius is an instable mod. I have just lost two HRE campaigns 100s of turns in to CTDs that seem to have halted all possibility of campaign progress. I save every year, but even going back a few turns still runs into the same error when I get to certain points. Ho-hum.

    Try the campaign script on the latest post of my BB thread (link in sig). BB is also required in full and requires a campaign restart.

    I'm suggesting it because I'm hoping that my recent fixes solve this problem. But since noone appears to be interested in testing it, perhaps we will never know

    Taiji,

    Having given up my last HRE campaign in despair I am willing to long term test your fixes. I want to complete an DLV HRE campaign! This is the second I have had to abandon after 100s of turns (i.e. lots of time and effort!).

    Just to be clear, I intend to install DLV 6.2 with BB2.47, enable all except the character based recruitment script and with Tokus and Shadraks graphics pack.

    Can I install Lusted's AI (reinforcement fix) as well without compromising the aforementioned files? If so, which version of Lusted's file would I need?

    I recommend a fresh DLV6.2, make sure you run it once, and then install BB2.48update3, and finally the campaign script on the last post in the thread. You need nothing else. If you need any help getting it working you can PM me and I'll respond as fast as I can.

    Thankyou very much for offering to test it, PTG

    The main problem with me testing it is that the issue never happens to me. I've seen it about twice in 100+ campaigns. Plus I am too busy with other things to commit the time to play a campaign.

    Ok no probs, 6.2 + BB2.48update3.

    A couple of things: when I d/l the 'campaign_script.rar' in the last post of that thread the filename is actually 'BB2.47' althought the file is 'campaign_script' - I just wanted to check that was correct and that I could drop the file in after I had installed 2.48?

    Also, I can't say how quick the test will be as I only really get to play in the evenings, though it didn't take long in my last campaign to get a CTD so I'll report as soon as I get one.

    BB2.47 is just the last 6.2 save compatible version. BB2.48Update3 + that campaign script is the latest. The campaign script goes in data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\

    If you're consistantly getting CTDs with this as well then at least I know there are other problems. But anyway, 2.48update3 has some interesting new features even if it CTDs lol

    Oh no!

    Well thankyou to everyone that helped me with this problem. Although we didn't find the indended outcome or solution, I really did appreciate the speedy help and understaning of the DLV community...even though I am a complete nube. So again once more thankyou for all your help. I think I interpreted that the general points system around here is rep, and although I am not certain if I have that 'authority' to give it out, I would to you guys!

    I shall start a new file, at which I am certain to fall in love with just as much as my old file! Happy gaming!

    Don't fret too much - I am testing Tiaji's latest BB file which rationalises the scripts - hopefully that should add some more stability. Looking at your error log, it does seem to be script related.

    I'll let you know how I get on. In the meantime, save every turn and if you get a CTD, reload the last game and try - sometimes this works. Or, after reloading , move some things around a little, like move a spy or a diplomat a few paces, then try ending the turn. Sometimes there are seemingly 'random' errors that stuff like this fixes.
