    Default Irish travellers

What exactly are they? Stuff about them came up in my history class (we were going over the troubles in Ireland, relating back to Cromwell etc). So are they just displaced Irish people who developed their own culture? Or are they an actual different ethnicity altogether who have a very ancient history?

Curious mostly. Are they actually gypsies? And why are they given the nickname 'tinkers'?

I work in a nightclub and I have had a few violent interactions with them, and I used to work in a dog-race track where I had more violent interactions (three stitches), hmmm, I'm beginning to think they may be predisposed to violence.

But they are quite interesting, like criminal loving, shot-gun slinging amish people kinda.

Yeah, if you type their name in on youtube you just get a bunch of barenuckles fights. Thats literally all I can find out, and its annoying because I'm actually curious, lol.

They're very hard to talk to, very insular. Like the Amish, they have a strange love of addidas (I think they have sponsorship or something, cause that's weird) and a lot of their modern income is from betting and racing dogs and horses and other rural cultural activities. They have their own version of modern Irish and are severly reduced in numbers recently due to the celtic tiger and the neccessity of urbanisation with stricter regulations.

And significantly lower living standards, life expectancy, and genetic disorders due to the high rate of inbreeding.

If you ever find violence doesn't solves anything, you haven't used enough.

No they are not gypsies, they are native to the Isles. I am not really up on their deepest origins so I'll leave that to someone else.

Tinker comes from the old tongue's tin ceard which means tinsmith.

Interesting. So they are essentially the Irish version of 'straight outta compton'.
