    Default Eight Hour Steam download!

I made my purchase of Empire: Total War today, and regretted it immediately afterward, when I found out that it would take eight hours to download. While I understand that it's a big game, and I know that I don't have the world's best internet connection, this seems a mite unreasonable. If you purchased ETW off of Steam, how long did it take you to download it?

I know what you mean my friend, when I bought it a couple of months ago the same thing happend. It started to install from the disc and installed about 8 Gb then it started to download off STEAM and it took all night until the next morning.

Same thing happend with NTW I bought it and the disk didnt work so I had to download off STEAM and it took four or five hours.

Probably took me a similar amout of time (usual download from steam at ~350-400kb/s) and that's why I bought Napoleon on disc . But even that still took about half an hour to install.

Half an hour is nothing compared to eight hours of download. If only Steam had refunds...

The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.

not if it has to be shipped. You can't get shipping in 8 hours. And I'm horrible with discs... I always lose them, it's terrible.

    6 hours

be sure to back up the game afterwards so if it has to download anything it'll only be patches and not the whole game

my eternal thanks to the EB team for making R:TW such an epic game, and to TWC and all other modders for pushing the boundaries with each Total War title .

only 8 hours to download? it took me like 3 days

I have a feeling my wireless internet connection might have been the cause... but i agree, disk>download. The disk part was done in like 10 minutes.

    Three days!? Ouch!

Ah, well. I ordered the disc off E-bay and hopefully it'll be here early this week.

Will I be able to install it, even though I technically bought a copy off Steam?

Im pretty sure it only cares about the data files in your steam folder , So it should work. Just make sure to get it to validate the files and everything.

I guess I'm in the minority...

I downloaded both Empire and Napoleon off of Steam at about 3.5 mb/s...so it didn't really take that long...

Let me persuade you with my powerful logic skills.

In light of the Total War series, a quote from the theologian whom I respect the most:

The Heavenly City outshines Rome, beyond comparison. There, instead of victory, is truth; instead of high rank, holiness.
