Hi,
does anyone know if Darth is working on a mod for this?
Hi,
does anyone know if Darth is working on a mod for this?
No he isn't I'm afraid. Check the darthmod review for details why. In short he's annoyed CA havn't and won't supply modding tools.
Because people like Darth and Myself don't trust CA to continue supporting the game longer than it will be played for. Every game can use a bit of improvement here and there, no game is perfect, an SDK would help reduce the amount of work the community has to put in to hacking out mods or working around the code.
If they released offical tools, not only would this make the modding community a lot more productive and resourceful but it will also cement the fact that we can expect this sort of relationship to continue in the future (which is EXTREMELY good for future TW game sales). Mods will definately increase the longevity of the product, but not everyone is prepared to mod a game that doesn't have an offical SDK for them to use, if we had that SDK it'd open up new opportunities for fresh modders to come in, and on top of this allow a lot more freedom than what can be done with present mod tools.
I understand why Darth did this and I support his reasons. CA needs to realize that the modding community is a very strong reason why Total War has been successful in the 21st Century- continue to ignore their desires is to alienate potentially the best marketing tool they have.
I wholeheartedly agree. Mods are the only reason empire was stomach-able, I certainly didn't like playing medieval or rome without mods either. I'm refusing to buy Napoleon until I see some strong mods released by the community. I don't care how improved NTW is over ETW, they lost my trust, so I'm not even going to risk buying the game unless I know there are strong mods that make it enjoyable.
Darth didn't do nothing. He will mod with our wonderful updated PFM, which is arguably the best Pack File Manager ever invented by 21st century humans for use with Napoleon: Total War.
But, yes, an official mod tool package would be great. It would require a paradigm shift on the part of CA, though. They'd have to catch up with all the other strategy games and rpgs that provide real modding support. At the very least, I think Kieran finally figured out that he should stop trying to convince the modders that CA was supporting them when they were the people in the position to know he was full of excrement.
Here's hoping.
I am regreting buying NTW now, as compared to DMUC. I am afraid it feels just to simplistic and arcadie and not the leap forward that CA said it would be, this is crying out for mods.....especially DM.
I belive his words were: "I will make a Darthmod and buy NTW if mod tools, community or official, are released."
Shoot coward! You are only going to kill a man!
Not gonna buy NTW without Darthmod so![]()
Not yet, probably never.
O.k, read the review, he actually says he will mod it "if" at least a DB Editor is made, he does not need official tools. So, who is responsible for the DB Editor.....![]()
Me and some other peeps gots it under control, Darth Junkies. Fear not.
Note Darth's post is el numero dreizehn.

Dunno, Im just reading the last line from his review as I remember it...
Shoot coward! You are only going to kill a man!
Thoragoros made a sweet mod. Had large unit sizes. Will hold ya over until Darth makes a mod.
I believe Darth said he wasn't going to mod this game in his review if I remember correctly. I'm not going to expect it so if it comes, great, if not I won't be disappointed.
