I bought my Napoleon Total war game yesterday...
I only had about 17 GB free space left on my harddrive - So i did somthing stupid that i had never done before...

    I compressed the HD...

I managed to install the game and play for 1 hour..
Later I found out I had destroyed the Harddisk - Becasue i had compressed it...Anyway it had about 20GB somwhere that it could not read...

    today i bought a new hardisk 640GB..
And I began to Install NApoleon Total war...after I had installed Vista again.

Duplicate product code was the message..
After trying to figure out what to do - I read that I should scan my product KEY and send it to the support KING...

    I have no scanner...
I have to go across town to make a scanning... But before I would do such a thing, I tried to Install
EMPIRE TOTAL WAR - just in case that didn't work either...

Duplicate product code... Was the reply...

Now i wonder how many of my games I have to scan and send to support before I can begin an evening of playing...

This is making me so mad...and angry..

Because this means all the games I have on Steam wont work anymore...
    -
Aint there some way other than run around the town - this is my weekend..
Im so angry...sorry.. I don't expect any easy sollutions...

You know what - I will go out and buy me some grass..

    Blame STEAM

Nice weather - why would i waste time playing their games..?

If it has been tied to your Steam account (as it should have been when you installed it the first time), you should not be having these issues.
Are you using the same Steam account?

And this is why steam is annoying because now you'll most likely have to redownload it or something or contact their 5 start and very usefull technicall call... blah, blah, blah.

I only have one steam account...
I used the same name as yesterday...

    It's really annoying..

    I LOVE TOTAL WAR...
you know.. I miss old times where we should not registre everytime the Computer went down..

It's so amazing - I only had to change my HD...Not internet - I didn't move to another part of the country...
Could you imagine if we had to do this each time we changed Ram, flatscreen, or DVD-drive..

I mean this is total control over my life...
Making me feel small and stuff..

    Sick stuff.

    thx for replies. sigh*

Well atleast they could have made it possible for the steam accout to recognize my DVD's...
    This is just plain stupidity...

    I don't buy games online.
    Bought it with real money.

I really think they should drop that Steam stuff. it's crap..
    When it does not work..

Surely all you need to do is install the game from DVD and then sign into your Steam account?

I've changed PCs, reformatted hard drives etc a few times and have never had a problem reinstalling from my DVD and than validating the install with Steam.

I can't really understand the problem, just log into to your STEAM account, download the game or install with cd(dvd) and then you're done. How hard can it be really?

I have changed rigs before too and no problems whatsoever. Just log into your steam account, then you won't even be asked for the product code.

Start steam first, only then install from the DVDs. Or download.

Product codes are 1-time-use, always. You already activated the game when you bought and installed it on your old, now defunctional HD.

Exactly. If you just have Steam installed on the new hard drive, log in to your account, and tell Steam to install it, then it will work. I did this when putting NTW on a second Steam using computer. I'll buy a second copy when I get multiplayer going at home, and even then I'll just log into my second Steam account and install the second copy to it. Once you have registered with Steam, you don't have to enter your code again. You don't use physical disks to redo it. It will give you the duplicate error.
Don't blame me, I voted for Pedro!

The only way you will get a duplicate key error, is if you are trying to register your key with a new account. Make sure you use the account you registered the game with, and all will be well.

You know - It might be because:
My Windows Vista was reinstalled - Meaning - NO UPDATES...

Maybe it is because there is no Service pack 1, or any other updates on my Windows, what so ever.

Right now - Installing service pack 1 - Perhaps it will help..
Been installing updates since yesterday - Thats alot of MB.

It's nothing to do with you reinstalling everything, Log into the steam account you used to activate the game, Once logged in go to your my games tab and napoleon total war should be under not installed. Then all you have to do is insert the installation disc and follow the instructions, There is no need for you to try and add the CD key twice to your account.

Tutorial with pictures coming in 2 minutes.

    -------
Maybe it could be - My USB modem -
It is very un-stable - Somtimes It cannot show a webpage - The i have to refresh - then it works..

So durring my registration - It might have done somthing similar and the registration did not go through.
    i dunno...

Step 1)Launch steam and Log into your steam account with the username and password you created when you first registered an account. (The one that you activated napoleon on)

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Step 2) Once logged in go to your my games tab and you should see napoleon total war under Not installed tabs.

Step 3) Insert your installation disc and this should put up.

Step 4) Click on Install Napoleon total war and follow the instructions, Eventually a new steam window should pop up with this.

Step 5) Click the next button and follow the instructions inserting cd2 when prompted etc once your done you should eventually have napoleon total war under Installed games and there you go.

See example picture of Empire total war below.

I have used steam for nearly 3/4 years and have never seen such a problem... Are you sure your on the account you activated empire total war and napoleon on? Because if you try and create a new account the games will not show up on it.

Whats your steam username so i can add you to my friends list so much easier than typing on the forums
