Default High or Ultra? Can you really tell the difference?

    Hello.
I'm starting again with ETW. I quit some months ago because of the crashes. Now with the 1.5 it seams stable.
    This is my computer:
    E8500 @3.8 Ghz
    4 GB DDR2 800 Kingston Hyperx
    ATI HD4850 512MB
    22" monitor - 1680x1050 resolution

I can run ETW with 4x AA, 16AF, Texture Detail Ultra, Unit Detail Ultra and everything else on High.
I get 60 FPS on the Campaign Map, around 50-55 in the battles - at the beginning, with the action it goes to 45 and in max zoom in around 30-35.

I've been tweaking the options and for the moment I'm happy with these. I have played a couple of times for 40 minutes, 1 hour 30 and everything seams stable.

But I have a general question - do you really can tell a difference between HIGH and ULTRA settings? I'm asking this because at the end I decided to low the Particle Effects to High, because in ULTRA I would loose some FPS and I couldn't really tell the difference.

    Any thoughts?

Yes there are differences, but your card depending on the resolution is not going to handle it. You see this game is not like a FPS, there are a lot of things going on, a lot of things to render, and so if you play at 1280*1024 you're going to get ultra and maybe not stutter like hell.

you see the problem is how much memory your card has.
