What region/s can I offer spain so they make peace.

Does the AI have hard coded regions they particularly desire? I have been at war with Spain forever (I'm UP) and I own all of their regions except for the home region. I've offered them 3 islands in the west indies and 200,000 gold and they won't make peace. What do I do? I don't want to destroy them.

I prefer using all of that gold to build a strong army and evntually take them out.

siege Madrid > open diplomacy panel > select peace treaty > threaten them.

I've tried the siege threaten. No luck though this case though although I have had luck with some of the smaller german states with it. I don't want to destroy only to suppress

Put some armies in Spain itself, blockade all their ports and burn all their builds except universities. This will add a boost to civil order in the region from foreign occupation, but you'll begin to see war weariness kick in within a few turns, and if you've blocked all trade, Spain may begin to go bankrupt which is a massive hit to public order. Siege Madrid with an army that will lure the defenders out to attack. If you destroy the Spanish army defending Madrid, but don't take the city, the Spaniards will likely ask for peace. And if you really want a more friendly regime, try forcing a rebellion on Spain.

I found offering France or Spain their own home province back for peace, or even as a gift (when they have another province left in Europe so not eliminated) is not enough - although they would be in good order if they took it back. it is red at the time. Blockading and then besieging didn't work, obviously. Stubborn, stubborn AI.

The only time I got Spain to make peace was when I was playing as GB and had "relieved" it of ALL of its provinces both in Europe and America (except Spain itself of course) and was blockading/occupying every town/port in Spain. I was also besieging Madrid and had already destroyed all of Spain's armies. And they still asked for 13,000! The cheek... I threatened them anyway and they made peace. Took up a lot of my resources though-though the American provinces gave a huge boost to my economy.
