I miss the old history channel so incredibly much. I turned it on the other day and they had fricken, Earth 2100... Earth fricken 2100 I'm afraid is not history. Neither is pawn stars, or ax men or global warming. I want my documentaries on the Civil war, war 1812, romans, the british empire, pirates, spanish, colonial america. Ghengis Khan etc etc. You know, actual history.

Nope... Lumber Jacks! Lumber Jacks.... more Lumber Jacks.... oh and Digging through old junk like the Pickers and Pawn Shop. I like Pawn Shop actually, unlike American Pickers, Pawn Shop gives historical backgrounds on the items seen in each episode, which is nice, its kind of like Tales of the Gun, give quick facts about firearms and a brief history and move on to the next Gun, each episode of that had a theme though like German Small Arms of WWII, they had a Japanese one as well, the Nambu pistol my picture in profile was in that one, darn thing is a jam fest one reason the picture shows ? marks around the character I bet. I want to know what caused the fundamental change. You'd think you could meld the two documentaries on things like the revolution, crusades and what not with the crappy shows like pawn stars but they don't even try. But they sure as hell keep modern marvels marathons a clicking. Atleast when it was the hitler channel, prime time still had great shows.

Does anyone know any channels with any actual history on? I havent watched History Channel in forever now because it is always reality, UFOs, end of the world, or world war two. I was just thinking about this the other day too while channel surfing and reminiscing about the days it was a good channel.

Pawn stars is actually pretty good. But i love when i see shows about the birth of america and it's fight against the British, makes me proud of my Country.

Pawn Stars is generally pretty good. Almost every other show you've got some great war memorabilia coming in that store. If I ever want a 17th century musketoon on trade in for an old coke machine, I know where to go.
I rather enjoy the new line up somewhat. Granted AxMen and Ice Road Truckers nonsense has got to go and some of the lame Modern Marvels like "Potato Chips and Paper Towel!" has runs it's course though.
History International still has basically the same old old History Channel line up though. With a slightly less blind devotion to WWII, though that still takes up about 20hrs of the days time slots.The scribes on all the people shove

History Channel is such a
right now!
Fortunately Discovery Civilization and National Geographic have filled the hole left by the History Channel... although they also have, sometimes, their own crappy documentaries. Some documentaries made by the History Channel Iberia still follow the old History Channel modus operandi. I absolutely loved this documentary they made about underground Lisbon a few months ago. When they show you something you know and you still learn more things about it, then it means they're making a good job. -

The History Channel has always been lowbrow money grubbing *insert expletive here*. I regret thatits slightly less tollerable to relax over, but lamenting its lack of integrity is not a new phenomenon by any means. If you want to read something interesting an on topic, Zizek's article on counter-factual history (which can be read here: http://www.lrb.co.uk/v27/n16/slavoj-...inland-station ) is very interesting in adressing some of the OP's gripes.

Theres been so many History Channel bashing threads, And I proudly contribute my say aswell. But if were all this annoyed perhaps we should write a petition to bring back History shows back on The History channel, but sadly I'd fear it would fall on deaf ears
