You have all your men ready to shoot, the enemy team approaches (computer), and they stop. You open fire, they open fire. Then they charge... with me having artillery facing them, calvary ready, bayonets ready... it's stupid?
Can't they realise that shooting is the only way they might win, not facing a stupid charge with their guns..

in that situation charging is more beneficial (takes out your artillery unless you want to fire on yourself)..and calvery shouldnt be charged into a melee fight

Cavalry should be used on a melee fight, its kinda the point of most cav, they charge they kill...

Use cavalry to flank the enemy engaged with your infantry in melee. 1v1 line infantry and dragoon, line infantry will win. Cavalry win with the charge bonus and morale shock.

Actually I'm a frequent user of melee charging myself. I've found that it's particularly effective to thin out their ranks in front of their artillery units before charging through with cavalry or something. I just keep about 2 units of militia (or cannon fodder
) with me at all times for this purpose. They're cheap and... well... patriotic enough to die for their country, so... why not oblige them ^^
