Play sea battles?

Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone skips all sea battles. I have been playing Empire and now NTW for almost a year and I have only played 2 sea battles. I never auto-resolve a land battle as they are my favorite part of the game, but sea battles I can't be bothered. Anyone else not interested in sea battles?

I'm deadly on land, on water I don't even bother. I just get destroyed.

Just the opposite. I love the sea battles. I often autocalc land battles if I have a good chance of success. The ship types have really been improved for NTW, you should check out a couple of sea battles.

I don't mind sea battles, but usually in my games I have a full stack navy and the comp attacks with light navys and the odds are so much that its not worth my time. I do play mainly GB tho.

Although that prolly wont be the case any more as GB doesnt seem as fun without the new worlds to conquer. I can probably count on one hand the times I interfered with the goings on of the Europe mainland.

Gord, if you're playing France it's probably not a big deal to auto-resolve. If you're playing a small ship action, though, or if you're playing British, you can probably do a lot better than the autoresolve result.

I agree with happycynic, the sea battles are pretty fun and they've made significant improvements since ETW. The bigger ones can get a bit tedious.

Park your main French battle fleet next to the Spanish one (they usually hang out on one of the trade nodes) if you autoresolve. It'll keep you alive longer.

I've played (and enjoyed) sea battle games in the past; Pirates, Port Royale, Burning Sea, etc etc...but for some reason I just cannot get motivated to try the naval side of Total War.

Dk why, just some strange aversion to it. Avoided the sea trade as much as possible in Empire, and haven't touched it in Napoleon...

Land battles just too engaging for me I suppose...

I actually really like the sea battles.

I'm good at sea battles involving less than 6 ships. Anymore than that and I just can't keep control. Its like trying to run a 6-person family in the Sims...

Anyways, I often find that the battles I do like (small ones) are so insignificant in the grand scheme of my campaign I just Auto-Resolve them, and the huge ones I also Auto-Resolve because I can't manage such huge numbers of ships...

I only really play Sea Battles in Custom Games/Multiplayer One Ship Mode or for fun (asin, engaging some random French Indiaman ship with a 122-Gun ship of the line).

Good Lord sir, you are a villain, skipping a thundering engagment on the high seas with teh chance to shout "Avast ye scurvy dogs!" at your foes, and instead focusing on a muddy field with some peasants...

In english: Naval battles are fun, give uhm a go, just keep a line and blast the enemy to smitherines...

lol! ok. will give it a shot. planning on maybe trying a British campaign. be a good campaign to get reacquainted with life at sea!

Yes, Britain is a good nation to have a sea cmapaign with, a nice starter battle for bigger fleets is the Batavian Republics trade fleet near Nelsons start postion...

do the French put up much of a fight sea wise?

Personally i always fight my sea battles even if it is 1 trade ship being attacked , i turn the sound up and enjoy every cannon shot.

Uhm, they have a go, but if you get Santissma and a couple other Heavy Firsts you can pretty much flatten most navies...

Spain and Denmark are the hardest in that order, they like their navies...

how do you get the Santissma? Capture her?

Yep, my main fleet is her, 3 other heavies, 2 1sts, 1 98, 1 80, 4 74s and still growing...

sounds good. i will start a brit campaign tonight. mainly playing the russians so it will be a nice change to try some sea battles.

UNtil someine mods a but of realism into the sea battles (ie not powerboat turns on a 1st rate) the naval battles have limited appeal. Darthmod's naval engagements were really fun. Only prob is on VH/VH (only challenging levels for land campaign) naval engagements become inpossible; there's so much less that can go wring for the AI, so morale/damage cheats really shaft you.

i very like the ship war~~~but the ship move toooooo slow!!!! =(
