    Hello there modder gods!

I am trying to make a mod to where your basic land units sustain more casualties on the battlefield. If any of you have played the mod "The Blue and the Grey" the Civil War mod you will know what I am talking about. Pretty much I want it to where the two armies meet, shoot, and die. Sounds a bit creepy, but I would love to learn how to do this.

If anybody could point me in the right direction or lend a hand that would be great! I just need to figure out what tables or files to edit via DBeditor.

Just in case you didn't know, but by the time of the American Civil War they already used rifled muzzleloader guns (and even some breechloader) while in the napoleonic era they still used smoothbore rifles.

There is a huge difference there. Obviously the smoothbores are much less accurate then the rifled guns. One reason why the Civil War was such so bloody with the high rate of casualties was that the rifle technology had changed, but the tactics had not. It was rather insane to walk in big formations towards another with such precise weapons.

Yeah. By the time of this war they evolved from muzzleloader rifles to breechloader rifles. Obviously these rifles could be loaded even when the soldier where lying on the floor or behind cover, which finally made the formation battles useless.

But how did the armies fight each other between the line battle periods and ww1?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War

The Crimean was pretty much the biggest war of the 19th Century (after the Napoleonic), though it's largely ignored in history though I'm not sure why. Maybe because it was one of those stupid wars like WW1 where despite tens of thousands of people dying horribly very little actually changed.

Combat still involved lines and cavalry and all that sort of thing though. It was really only in the Boer War, where the British faced experienced enemy with hugely accurate rifles over great distances that tactics really had to change. That's when camouflage and things appeared. It's often forgotten that a Boer-War vintage Mauser rifle and similar weapons were more accurate than modern infantry rifles over much greater distances.

I think artillery changed more than the rifle technology though. Once you've got breach loading howitzers to play with any infantry trying to move in numbers is dead meat because the rate of fire goes from one shot every few minutes to a few shots every minute. I mean people talk about the bloodbath of WW1 and people wandering forwards into machinegun fire, but most of the damage was done by the big guns. There was an obscene amount of artillery flying around at that time.

Some good points there. Also read up on the Franco-Prussian War, even though the French had better rifles the new Krupp artillery decimated them, particularly at the Battle of Sedan.

In terms of people involved and casualty rate Crimean War has nothing on Taiping Rebellion, happening around the same time periord.

The short answer being: With great carnage.

Lord have mercy on the Poor Bloody Infantry...

If it went by merit, you would stay out, and the dog would go in.

Kyrdon, you'll probably have to wait until someone configures the DB Editor for Napoleon from Empire, but then it is a simple matter of changing ballistics damage, spread, and a few other variables.

The best place to post is probably the modding section. Hope this helps.
If you rep me, leave your name. I'll look more kindly on your future transgressions.

Alrighty, thanks for the heads up there. I will go ahead and copy paste this into the mod section. Thanks all.
