I love the irony of you calling the British 'English' and having a Black Watch soldier in your avatar...

Anyways, how is Waterloo? I haven't got there yet and I haven't seen much about it. Is it truly epic or a typical TW sized-down affair?

Yea downsized of course it is Wellington and the Prussians brought about 150 000 men and napoleon 72 000 lol and my mistake British oh speaking of the black watch don't try to charge them i lost a whole regiment doing so and they had minimal losses.

Well i got through this one on hard difficulty. (I'm assuming the waterloo campaign is the same as the one in napoleon's battles because its easy to unlock the campaign one by just starting the campaigns before it. If its not please tell me.)

Anyway, I tried to take the farmhouse on my left with a young guard and 2 fusiliers supported by one chasseurs a cheval cav. My infantry was defeated. I managed to save my young guard and retreat it back to my lines, along with my cav.

I shifted my attention to the middle farmhouse, captured it with my other young guard and my 2 grenadiers. Both grenadiers routed though. I charged the rifles in the pit with 2 lancers, both routed but killed the rifles and a british dragoons. Sent my 2 old guard to where the prussians appeared. About this time I killed Wellington with my chasseurs a cheval. The whole British army by then were attacking but i destroyed it with the 1st young guard i had saved and my artillery and Marshal Ney and my cuirassiers.

I routed Blucher with my old guard, and from then on it was mopping up.

I used the following tactics as a basis for winning Waterloo on VH. Kudos to Sir Nicholas Altman for this

I had quite a lot and I killed Blucher with my cavalry so they broke fast.
To add to this, I would suggest:

    - send one grenadier unit to storm the rightmost farmhouse (attack the light infantry units inside via melee). Keep them inside to distract some of the British artillery (and possibly enemy infantry units nearby) until you need these grenadiers to reinforce a position.

    - use all guard (both Old and Young) units as the mainstay of the attack on the British left (your army's right).

    - in terms of what cavalry to send to the right, send all your cavalry units except the Chasseurs a Cheval, D'Erlon, and of course Napoleon (these 3 remaining units are for immediate back up to your stationary fusiliers of line when the British charge into your main battle line).

Note: The Prussian army might come after the first 10 minutes of the battle and will appear on the far right of the map. Make sure you respond appropriately to them if they take notice of your force that's attacking the British left flank.

With above tips, I managed to loose not more than 800 units on VH (only my artillery were routed due to cavalry charges BTW).

Strange, I found it rather easy.

First, use your cavalry to take out their cannons. Then pound the Duke into death with your own cannons.

Next, take two-three units of line infantry and prepare for the Prussians.

Use the rest of the infantry to take the three houses and keep them under your control.

Well, I ended up winning with this strategy and I actually had quite a few units still under my control.
