tighter formations mod (compatible with crackling fire, mod and patch files now available)

Hey guys,

I know this was a popular mod for ETW, so for those of you who wanted tighter formations for NTW, I've cooked up this little mod real fast.

This mod changes the space between ranks for all non-light infantry units from 1.75 to 1.1. Hence, tighter formations.

I left light infantry alone because it didn't look good having them so close together in an irregular formation. Besides, they'll be in light infantry mode most of the time anyway

Two versions are attached to this post, a) tightfire.pack and b) tightformation.pack.

(A) tightfire.pack has PB&J's crackling fire mod included...this was originally a personal mod of mine, but because I know crackling fire was popular and is one of my ETW favorites, I've included it for the like-minded (PB&J, if this is not okay with you, let me know and I'll take it down...the way unit_land_stats work, you can't have one mod that has tight formations and another that has crackling fire, so I had to incorporate your mod in mine to make it compatible).

(B) tightformation.pack is just tight formations.


These are mod files, so after you drop them into your data folder be sure to include them in your user script file by adding either:

mod "tightfire.pack";

or

mod "tightformation.pack";


to the text file.


Edit: I've now added patch versions, patch_tightfire.zip and patch_tightformation.zip. Just download the one you want, unzip it into your data folder, and you'll be set.

Actually Mod Manager is not needed; you can add the file names manually to your user.script.txt and it'll work fine.

However, for ease of use, I have patch versions uploaded like you requested. Enjoy

If you can't find it, it's probably not been made, so you'll have to manually create one.

However, for ease of use, I have patch versions available. Just download the patch file you want (patch_tightfire, for example), and unzip it in Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/napoleon total war/data. Then you'll be set to play

Should work fine with Brigadier Graham's mod, since it does touch the music files at all.

What is crackling fire?

PB&J's mod, which gives the skirmish ability to all line infantry. What that means is that the first two rows fire at the same time, and the third/fourth rows will fire if they have a clear shot. Then, the unit proceeds to fire at will. Basically, a lot more lead flying around!

where is the user script file for XP

Not sure where it is for XP, but in Win7 you can find it in Users/AppData/Roaming/Creative Assembly/Napoleon/scripts.

I imagine the XP pathway is similar, should be somewhere in your Users folder...
