Was 9/11 a good thing?

If you look at it like this:
A. It stopped the Taliban.
B. It started a war on Islamic extremism.
C. It brought light on the issue of terrorism.

So as a result it has saved allot of innocent lives (it brought light on islamic extremism and abuse, many terrorist attacks were halted, it stopped Taliban which had been brutalizing the country since the Afghan government fell in the early 90's).

So despite how extremely sucsesfull it was in Osama's goal (create fear, make his movement and goals be known) this ultimately may have brought doom on him (unless he wanted a 20+ year war and hunt against him).

But then again we got invasion of Iraq and stuff like this:

No, it was a bad thing through and through. Things would have been much better had 9/11 not happened.

We shouldn't have needed 9/11 to take these guys out. While it did get the government off their butts to deal with these radical muslim terrorists, it was a bad event nonetheless. Saying it was a good thing would be saying the ends justify the means, something that has led many people down a dark road.

Obviously not. 3000 people died in the attacks, about a 100.000 (afghan, iraqi, arabs, americans, brits, canadians, dutchmen, germans) have died in the wars that followed. Furthermore, it has fueled american neo-colonialism in Iraq (Operation Iraqi Liberation *cough*) et cetera, et cetera...
