    Default Alliances...

Alright I know some updates are hopefully on the way but I wanted to see if anyone else has been noticing this. I am in about 40 turns in my Prussian campaign and I have no allies, I have built up trade and bought most of my techs and am essentially rich.

All nations are friendly towards me or at worst, indifferent. I befriended France and have good relations with them and Spain. Now out of the blue Russia attacks me, ok I understand they want my eastern empire so I mobilize to fight them. Now's when things get weird. Austria begins to hate me because Russia and them are allies, so before I get attacked by them I make an alliance with the ottomans. After paying them nearly 10000 and giving them some good military techs, they finally agree. SO now I am thinking well, I am set for a war with Austria. Before I can make a preemptive strike against them, the next turn (2 weeks) the ottomans break the alliance.

This has happened more than once in different circumstances, its pretty annoying. So I was thinking...

    1) is this right? I mean it makes no sense, an alliance should be honored not thrown in your face the next turn after you paid them handsomely and
    2) I am playing with a campaign diff on very hard, does this make the AI "too" untrustworthy, or too smart for lack of better terms. Anyways, what does vh diff for campaign do?

    Thanks

If you pay someone 10,000 and tech to become ally they are most likely not your friends... if you want to build ally you need to do so over time, give gifts, keep trade happy, etc.. not give lots and make ally in one turn.

I appreciate the answer but theres just no proof thats the problem. Thats simply your idea of it.
I have made allies before that offered me the alliance just to turn and double cross me for no apparent reason.

I know some others have had to of experienced this. I know v/h gives the ai more money but is there anything else?

Sometimes you really have to work to craft an alliance over time and can pay off to the point where they will offer you one if you agree to attack someone they do not like. The Ottomans were fairly indifferent to me when I first offered an alliance. I bought one with money and tech and they broke it maybe one turn later. I wasn't too happy about this but I guess it does make sense, they were never too friendly with me in the first place and didn't have much incentive for one. Fast forward a while later and I had better relations with them and was at peace with Austria. They ended up offering me an alliance, tech, and money in return for going to war with the Austrians. they are now very friendly with me. I would say if they have friendly to very friendly relations with you, they shouldn't break an alliance.

I can almost believe thats the case (not good enough relations). But for the ai to straight take advantage of you like that is either eerily human like or an oversight in the code or design. I have my doubts because in a certain instance I allied with Austria whom I had good relations (they offered it) but then later they broke it. So a few turns later I get a prompt that they will reform an alliance with me for 9600 ... so maybe its the difficulty or maybe a error but it really leaves holes in the diplomacy (which is overall great, much better than before)

My first campaign I went with the flow and allied with the coalition. About 60 turns later I happen upon the diplomacy charts which I apparently hadn't checked enough to find myself and Britain were the only ones fighting napoleon and not only that the former allies in the coalition were trading with him. Anyways I guess its just me...
