Default Updating with DLC pack on Steam

Hi, all, just in the middle of frustration that I'm hoping to have abated or sympathized with. I've been playing Empire with no problems (single player campaigns, offline mode). I've been debating about spending the money to get the extra units and/or Warpath Campaign. Well, after nearing completion of a great United Provinces Trade Monopoly Extravaganza, I thought for my next campaign I would try the Warpath deal. Why not? I'm Osage Indian myself, struggle of the natives and all of that. Anyway, so I decide against my better judgement to get back online with Steam and download the DLC.

Now, I'm already updated to 1.5 (did so about a month and a half ago), and I'd checked the file sizes on the Warpath and DLC pack (hey, all in one deal, $17.99, why not?). 48mb, give or take. I can deal with that.

That was two days ago. I'm still updating, not at lightning speed (I'm a step above dial-up, avg spd 28 kb/s). I am frustrated that I give them money for some extra units and an expansion, worth the $17 in my opinion, but now I can't play again? I can't say I'm to tears, but more than mere annoyance. I work my butt off all day to get home, tuck the kiddos and the wife in, then spend the early morning hours dispensing judgement on my subjects in this really fun game. I feel slighted that I can't enjoy what I have paid for simply because of the internet and steam. I have downloaded nearly 3 gigs of data over 44 hours of online time, and I'm at a whopping 3% on the updating screen. Have I done something wrong? I give MORE money, and I then get NO game time?

This is my first experience with Steam. I think the concept has a lot of promise, and of course I browsed the web at work, scouring boards to find similar situations and/or fixes. I turn to this database, a major reference for me since Medieval Total War (yes, the first one), to find wisdom in the posts and posters, and am very rarely dissappointed. I beseech all who are viewing: any help, ideas, condolences, ridicule for being stupid enough to take off the "offline" status just to get a few extra units and a new campaign, anything?

I appreciate your time in reading this post. I'll be here, hoping that in the next couple of hours my 3% will magically turn to....wait for it.... 4.

I don't envy you. I am part Scotch, Irish, Sioux, Osage, Pawnee, and after that depending on who you believe. I would like to see how the Warpath is but on on Steam. You sell me the dvd with a standalone installer and I'll think about it. I only have Empire because my wife bought it as a gift. When I saw steam to activate, warning bells went off. I haen't played it enough to get my monet's worth. You would think from all the pr it would rip me from my Kingdoms mod and never go back. Wrong, CA.

I had Medieval 1. Enjoyed the hell out of it.

Good luck on your download Have you put up its download monitor? I found it taking some big dips in speed at times even to zero.

I keep the monitor up just to continue my own frustration. I have broadband modem internet connection, not the cable internet I had before. I only see the difference when I am streaming videos, and now this. I love Empire, though it took me a while to really get into the change in tactics and technology, but I find it almost as satisfying now as I do Rome and M2TW. But I have to admit, and I'm usually the last one to complain, this experience with Steam and the direction pc gaming, if Steam is the future, I may spend a lot more time with my PS3. I feel a little enslaved to internet connection speed. And while I would enjoy a private T3 connection, my mortgage, electricity and insurance speak to other priorities. I'm sorry to get off topic, just venting a little... I was just afraid that it's already updated, I might have just accidently clicked on the "Mess with your mind detail - high" option by mistake.

Enjoy it. After all this you deserve to. I have a dsl connection right out on the fringe. If this thing has any real speed, it's lost before it gets to me. Cable in this town uses wireless and I don't trust it with overamped cb and ham radios in the neighborhood. I'm stuck with landline.

I am still not playing Empire. Still says 2 days 23 hours until I can play the game. Nothing has changed except my blood pressure. Download all day, never get above 30 kb/s or so, really can't take much more. Please, someone reading this, help!!!!!!!!!
