    Default Present Day Alliances

This world has become very polarized with certain alliances having formed over the years. It is interesting though to look at the alliances that have formed during the post Soviet era. During the Soviet era, it was mainly NATO vs. Warsaw Pact, and middle east was rather neutral. Now the alliances have gotten a little more complicated.

And by allies I mean strong military alliances that are exclusive between the countries. I won't list all the countries only the main ones.

    NATO ("The West")
    -North America
-Most of Europe including numerous Eastern European countries
    -Turkey

    CIS ("Russian Allies")
    -Russia
    -Belarus
    -Serbia
    -Armenia
    -Central Asian Nations

    Neutral Countries
    -Switzerland
    -Austria
    -Sweden
    -Iceland

Countries seesawing between West and Russia
    -Ukraine
    -Azerbaijan
    -Georgia (mostly west now)

    Pro-West Middle Eastern Countries
    -Saudi Arabia
    -Jordan
    -Iraq

    Anti-West ME countries
    -Iran
    -Syria
    -Lebanon (part)

Feel free to add more alliance categories (esp Asia) or edit any of these.

You've forgotten China and it's allies (I'm not entirely sure which East Asian countries are really allied with China though), and I'm not too sure where you'd put India.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

Sweden and Austria are not strickly neutral... In East Asia, pretty much everyone is Americans' friends except China. In South-East Asia, situation is dividing into pro-West (with Australia as lead), Neutral (with a lot of nationalism in, I mean Indonesia and Burma), and neo-Commie (Combodia and Vietnam). India is quite an interesting case as itself plays a pro-India faction alone, although strickly it is neutral (a bit like current Egypt).

Oh and Iceland is part of NATO. And India is in the US camp.

The EU trains together, and even has 15/18 or so EU battle-groups ready for deployment as a QRF. It's still not a military alliance.

The anti alliance hate group: Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

........ Ok, but seriously, do we still have an Alliance (incl. our Finnic and Icelandic brothers)? I heard we some for of 'semi shared' form of quick defence line?
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

The UK has defence alliances with the Netherlands and Norway. I'm not sure if its a joint one or 2 separate ones, but I do know with Norway that the UK is partly responsible for the defence of the country.

Where's Israel on this list? Seeing as how they are the only country left with a spine (at least until Obama gets his butt kicked to the curb), you'd think they would be listed.

Because we want to avoid getting dragged into wars. Plus Israel is not exactly in most of Europes good-books.
