Thinking of Buying N:TW, but Confused about the BAI

THIS IS NOT A DEBATE THREAD, SO PLEASE DON'T RESPOND TO THINGS OTHER PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THE BAI. I ONLY WANT COMMENTS SO I AND OTHERS WHO ARE THINKING OF BUYING N:TW CAN USE THEM!


I'm hoping to get N:TW this week, but I'm a bit puzzled about the BAI. About 75% of the community and critic reviews that I've seen say the BAI is either an improvement, good, or extremely good, whereas 25% say the BAI is the same, is worse, or is broken. I'm not sure which side to believe.

Post YOUR thoughts on the Battle AI, but please, don't debate or argue about it. I only want comments about the AI itself, not what others say.

In my experience the AI has been much better than in ETW. It's not perfect and sometimes does some things I wish it wouldn't, and there is room for improvement but overall it's adequate in my humble opinion.

Its better than ETW, still not brilliant, but it can put up a fight, and hopefully Darth will sort it out...

They have just fixed the Pack File Manager for ntw

If you don't bring Artillery with you, you get some very good battles. Artillery on the battlefield causes the AI to act like an elephant that just saw a mouse. If you bring artillery with you, I am not sure if its possible to lose. The AI never keeps a defensive position even if it has a clear advantage.

You have to also pray that the AI won't suicide rush its General headlong into a firing squad.

If your battles were 20 infantry vs. 20 infantry, you would get some epic battles.

So....

All infantry = epic battles
Bring Artillery = epicac battles

I remember seeing this in other TW titles on release as well. The defender would have a great position but run at your lines. I think they eventually patched it out, so I am hopeful for NTW.

Confused about the BAI...don't worry so is CA.

Better than E:TW but inconsistent, still sometimes prone to suicidal movements...

melee bug still existant, darth wont sort it out as he wont buy and mod ntw as long as CA doesnt provide mod tools

Darth will not mod ntw? Thank god we can be rid of his fanboys and his ham-handed "fixes" to problems that may or may not actually exist.

And the melee bug isn't there. The melee "bug" was from units walking up and mashing into the enemy NOT because they charged them.

What's causing the "melee bug" in ntw is the way that fire and advance was changed. Fire and advance now (if targeted on an enemy and NOT just used with fire at will) will cause your men to fire 3 volleys and then charge.

"omg this is unrealistic!" Yes, but it makes for a more exciting game. Removing F+A from NTW by modding is something that any idiot with 30 minutes and a DB editor can do for those who simply don't like melee at all.

There isnt the same one there was in Empire. That seems fixed, but there is a separate issue that could also be called a melee bug.

Not to go against my own thread rule, but I'd much like it if F+A was removed. I don't much like the AI doing melee charges which are physically impossible for them to win.

better for sure. of course not perfect, but puts up a much better fight then Empire. and like you said 75% to 25%. Gotta go with the odds.
